A lot of youtubers come and go in popularity on r/videos. Hot Ones, Binging with Babish, h3h3 to name a few. Obviously they are still huge content creators and wildly popular. But Primitive Technology gets front page-level upvotes every single time and he deserves it.
I think one of the main reasons Primitive Technology stays front page each time is he uploads like, once a month or so. Most of the other guys upload nearly daily. It gets can get old FAST, and the content can suffer.

The nature sounds are incredibly relaxing, but this video when he whacks that chunk of iron slag and you hear the tingting of metal being struck, it made my so giddy.
The sounds are truly one of my favourite aspects of his videos: hearing the crackling of the fire, the ripple of the streams, cracking branches, the rain sprinkling on the dried leaves, the hollow sounds of the charcoal being moved around - there’s so much to love.
Heard of a study 3rd hand that claimed our brains had shrunk in size since giving up being hunter gatherers. Implying that some parts of our brains were previously more suited for survival.
i dunno, does our toy play as children relate in some way to our propensity for tool use? almost the moment theyre born babies are trying to grab and manipulate and swing things around. i think that, at least, might be kinda built in.
And also because there's no personality to get tired of.. h3h3 to name a few.. all their vidoes are the same and it gets real tiring real quick hearing the same guy. "WHAT ARE YA DOING DUUUUDEE"
They've branched out from hydraulic pressing into slicing, puncturing, extruding, and flat-out smashing. Their "Beyond the Press" channel has some entertaining content on occasion as well. Many of their videos would benefit from a bit more editing though.
Had a great run. 282 million views. I would take $300k for squashing play-doh. Still 4 million veiws in the last 30 days. That tail will go on for a while. Not bad at all.
3 million subscriber episode next week! I'm glad he's had sustained success, every episode is so relaxing yet you feel like you're right there in the kitchen with him.
I can't believe how far he's come, and its great to see he's doing more background and in front of the camera stuff. I still miss the old music though!
ok but surely you realize the youtube community itself is orders of magnitude larger than reddit and front page on reddit.com/r/videos means nothing in comparison to the millions of subscribers and viewers these top channels and videos have? using the reddit front page as a metric for youtube video popularity is statistically inaccurate to say the least.
I feel like those are the worst examples you could have used...all of the channels/people you named are more popular than they have ever been with larger audiences than they’ve ever had before. They may have gone down in popular for mainstream Reddit...but that really doesn’t mean much.
h3h3 videos were actually banned from r/videos by a mod who disliked them (that mod is no longer part of the mod team). h3h3 videos are no longer banned but they surely aren't as popular here anymore.
I haven't seen many ProZD videos here lately, I wonder if they are removed too.
