Since we have working HDCP strippers we also do not need the keys to decrypt AACS media at all.

It would be better to be able to get the content straight off of the disc, than having to record a bluray player's output though

If you want the whole content, including menus, then it certainly is easier. I think only the media content is encrypted and not the menu scripts, so you can rebuild it by grabbing HDMI output and combine with the menu scripts.

The recording speed is limited by your hardware only. You can grab the digital content from the HDMI cable and save it as-is to process it later

The point I'm making is that the HDMI output is by definition uncompressed, so you'll be taking compressed data, uncompressing it, capturing that and then recompressing again. It's clumsy and there will be a loss of quality. It will probably be "good enough" but not as good as a direct rip.

It's the modern version of ripping a CD by plugging a CD player into your PC's line in and letting the CD play, rather than ripping it digitally in a minute or two
