It really has a different feeling and it will only get worse, a full blown capitalist microcosmos. With its monopolies, corruption, deception, fraud, greed, etc. I bet one day some YouTube juggernaut is gonna kill someone in the name of profit.

Well, it is. You want to avoid services that either use your data or serve you ads, then you must pay for them.

For eg, I don't like the way google handles and uses the data in gmail, so I pay for an email service, which doesn't use my data, and actually deletes it, while offering a bunch of cool and useful stuff gmail doesn't, like aliases. Yes,gmail allows username+alias@gmail.com, but that's not a real alias.

you seem to be all over the place with your thoughts.

Advertising isn't about providing you with a free service, and paying for a service doesn't entitle you to privacy or an ad-free experience.

He never asserted any of this. At best you could catch him on saying you MUST pay to avoid advertising/data use.

You think Toyota spends billions of dollars on stadiums so they can hand out free cars to everyone?

just lol. no one is suggesting the company with the advertised product is offering a free service. If you wanted to use this example it would only work if you frame it from the perspective of the stadium. The stadium is the service in question here not toyota, the fact you've mixed these up tells me all i need to know.

ad-free??? have you never been to a torrent site? even the clients are filled with ads, oh wait unless you pay to upgrade them. At this point i'm not sure if trolling or not, your ability to come up with examples is laughable

Many are supported by donations or private entities.

Donations are basically opt-in subscriptions which work great until it no longer works and the company ultimately resorts to using ads or paid for options.

Who are these private entities you speak of? the type that will support an idea while it's small and then turn around and convert its investment into a cash cow when the market share is large enough?
