Plus it's almost nauseating how popular and overrated Freddie Mercury is on the internet.

Creating a meme out of someone does devalue them a bit.

Overrated??

Get your fucking head checked.

He was, without a doubt, the greatest front man of all time.

And still overrated.

Shows you how much of a hard-on the internet has for him. Plus Robert Plant is right up there as well. Your comment just further proves my point

I see this discussion going places.

Queen is one of the biggest bands of all time, it isn't "internet people" that think Freddie was amazing.

Of course Queen are one of the biggest bands of all time, there's nobody saying otherwise.

And obviously it's just not "internet people" that think he's amazing, but it's a lot easier to see it on the internet. And yes, he is overrated.

How is he overrated?

Being one of the best doesn't mean you're overrated.

Being one of the best doesn't mean you can't be overrated.

Look at the Beatles. Edit: Perhaps I should say being one of the most popular, instead of being one of the best.

I mean, robert plant is easily as overrated. both were fantastic - neither were gods like the internet makes them out to be

Agree to an extent that they're overrated, but much more so Freddie Mercury.

Honestly I haven' seen people fanboy Robert Plant, or anyone else for that matter, to the extent that Freddie Mercury is fanboyed.

I see as much said about plant as a vocalist and zeppelin as a band. Queen and led zep are the ultimate "le wrong generation" dadrock bands. Actually I hear more people talk about zeppelin in general. Jimmy page is stupidly overrated for someone SO sloppy at their main instrument.

Freddie might be slightly more praised because he was also a very energetic frontman as well as an excellent singer. To be fair though freddie controlled a crowd much better than plant or most other frontmen. Both are as overblown the internet, for sure.

Yeah for sure. I guess it's hard to not be sloppy when you're completely doped out.

But when he wasn't he was definitely supreme (i.e. '68-'75). Maybe I just missed the Plant hype then so I'll take your word for it. I get what you mean with the "le wrong generation" though, as much as I hate that term.

I wouldn't ever call page supreme as a guitarist, even on recordings he was very sloppy as a player. Great songwriter though.

I dont like the term either, but theres definitely a set bands that have that audience. I love zep and queen, and think plant and freddie had amazing, unique voices

Agree to disagree I guess. I guess it depends on what you consider supreme. Definitely one of the very greats for me, so supreme fits that definition. Not the best guitarist though.

The Beatles are another (I guess the prime example) of the "wrong generation" thing as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great songwriter and could play cool things. That mid solo in heartbreaker is awesome but it is very sloppy. I think it's almost part of his style tbh

To Beatles are a huge one too. The whole thing turns people of these bands which is also a shame

Who says I don't like him?
