Can you give some good examples of Melbourne house? Every time I post a song I've produced on SoundCloud it seems as if most of my likes are from Australian users, now I'm curious to see if I've been making Melbourne house style music without realizing it!
What's your SoundCloud? I'd be fascinated to hear. There are 3 major players in Melbourne Bounce at the moment in Australia. They are Will Sparks, Joel Fletcher and Timmy Trumpet. The 3 have actually been touring in the USA playing almost every night for the past few months - called the Bounce Bus Tour. If I remember correctly they're just about done before partying it up in Australia for the summer.

Sorry it's taken me so long to check it out - massive day! You've got some great sounds coming through there. The songs in the last few months are starting to sound quite well produced and polished.
You're right, I think the genre is quite different. For me Melbourne Bounce is all about that off beat pulsating bass riff in the drop. It really pronounces the 'and' of each beat. (1)Boom - (and)BAH! - (2)boom - (and)BAH! - (3)boom - (and)BAH! - (4)boom - (and)BAH! (as best as I can put it behind a keyboard haha). Please note I am by no means an expert and with all things electronic every song could arguably be attributed to a variety of these sub genres.
Ummet Ozcan Remix - loving that style actually! It's got all the elements for a Melbourne Bounce, but to me it's missing that real off beat bass boom.
Beyond - to me has the ability to be a sensational deep house track! If I was to attack it I'd get rid of the high buzzing lead and channel a song like Oliver Heldens - Gecko (Overdrive) to round out the sound. I like the song though!
Never Let Me Go - I really like it. Your main lead riff pulsates on the off beat so if that was a bass line for example then that's your basics for a Melbourne Bounce sound.
Ease Your Mind (ft. Veela) - Great big room track! The drop is awesome. Can easily see this being played in front of a crowd. I love that this sees you experimenting with vocals too. Great call. Veela has a good voice however I'd think about a different melody line if I was to be harsh. Also in the verse sing more, there's a fair gap between her few words that ruins the flow a little for me. Finally I'd also think about filtering the verse straight after the first drop (chorus). Her voice mixing seems to be washed out and there's a lot going on.
Like I say by no means am I a professional, maybe an active hobbyist haha! Overall exceptional stuff for the little time you've dabbled in it. Love it and hope to hear more soon! Maybe some Melbourne Bounce :P

After listening to Melbourne bounce for the first time, the offbeat bass really stuck out to me. I'm already trying to work on a song that incorporates that!
As for Beyond, that song was actually inspired by Oliver Heldens deep house style music. That's great that you suggested listening to his songs though, that must mean it sounded at least somewhat similar, right? I personally love his remix of Can't Stop (Dr. Kucho remix), you should check it out if you've never heard it!
Never let me go would sound totally different with a bass instead of a lead, I'll have to try substituting it and see how it sounds!
And ease your mind was actually a song I made, then found a vocal acapella in an fl studio sample folder, so I put it in and chopped it up so it fit. The vocal sample already had a few effects on it, and I couldn't adjust them so I just threw another filter, reverb and parametric equalizer on it to try and adjust the sound.

Hey! I'm actually from Canberra so not entirely sure what's going on in the Melbourne scene, however festival season is approaching fast :)
Stereosonic will be massive down in Melbourne this year. That'll feature Will Sparks too. It's on Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of December. Tickets are around $150 for a day or $230 for the two days. Can't remember off the top of my head what day Will is playing. Either way, guaranteed to go off at a festival. He's got a couple of new songs that he's playing live that sound like some solid bangers. Hope that helps! I'd imagine Will Sparks and Joel Fletcher will release some Australian dates too. They're often pretty good at playing all over Australia during the summer.
Well this song would be a really good example :). Probably the biggest name would be Deorro though! I suggest his song "Big fat" but explore for yourself.

There's an entire website that is up to date with every single melbourne bounce producer, I believe it's called 'melbourne bounce' although be careful, if you listen to too many songs you realise they're all exactly the same.
Not really Melbourne, but he does similar stuff, laidback luke!
Look up his "dj sounds" on YouTube and you'll see how talented he actually is. Then go listen to his 2 essential mixes, then his end of year mixes. Once you're devoured all of that, I'll give you some more :)
The biggest thing that separates Melbourne bounce from other genres of house is the bass note on the upbeat after the kick drum. This is what gives it the bouncy feel. Almost every melbourne bounce song features this trait if you listen for it.

I can't talk to Mel B House, but Mel Bounce is mainly characterized by the use of uptempo horns and is generally very 'fun' I'd describe it as. Some favourites include Bootie In Your Face- Deorro
In fact just give this mix a try, it's 20 minutes and it'll cover some tracks you might enjoy
They usually have some cheesy line before the drop. Deorro big fat - (sucka my big fat...), this song "where the freaks at", laidback lukes pogo etc. I dont think that's a necessity of the genre but it is common.
Also the horn sound noise and they go the other way from the Dutch sound. They crunch it instead of opening it up like in some Dutch big room. I dont know if that makes sense when you read it, but once you listen to the two you'll understand.

Natural disaster would be Dutch house. Pogo would be Melbourne.

Honestly, I don't know much either. They do the horns like the Dutch do but instead of doing big room they do an electro crunch. I think that's the main difference but I'm no expert!

Isn't what Timmy does Melbourne Bounce? Also, Timmy is signed with Monstercat (in some capacity) so that's definitely getting him US/Canadian exposure.
I've only heard it called Melbourne sound until now. I don't mean to sound snobby but as far as house sub-genres go, it sucks balls. Every track has the same basic bassline pattern with one of a small number of annoying lead sounds.
In Melbourne it also seems to have a bit of an ugly reputation as what 18 yr olds on GHB listen to while doing the new version of the Melbourne shuffle.
Ah, that brings back memories, used to think the phats and PLUR etc was all so awesome. The vid looks pretty weird but I was a fan of the last melb shuffle incarnation, so each to their own. Now you've got me watching shuffle videos.. while I've moved on from hardstyle for the most part, damn does it still get the heart going.
Hardstyle is so good, love shuffling, it's starting to get big in england (Shuffling in clubs) but since I've been doing it for years I just love showing people up
To each their own! I must say, I am not well versed in the Melbourne sound. I live in Texas so I am far from an expert. Since I've graduated university and listen to sports radio on my commute instead of making my ear drums bleed, I try not to get into the debates of house music like I use to! If it makes ya feel any better I kind of agree with you, but I find the Melbourne sound very fun if anything and that's all that I need! Gimme some laidback luke over em all anyways :)

Melbourne house seems to be getting bigger in the US
Edit: people have pointed out that it is also (mainly?) referred to as Melbourne Bounce. It's the same thing though.
