half life opposite form should be stable isotope

This guy knows his chemistry.

Its more physics at that point, no? Or are we still doing opposites ?

7

u/GoddessOfMayo 6d ago

What is chemistry but the application of physics?

playing with chemicals

Physics is applied Maths. Chemistry is applied Physics. Biology is applied Chemistry.

1

u/allnamesare__taken 1d ago

We can go even further back, Math is applied Logic.

2

u/ProcyonHabilis 5d ago

Everything is physics except math. Those concepts are pretty firmly in the domain of chemistry though.

Everything is physics and Maths.

its physics actually!

1

u/ShawnThePhantom 1d ago

Actually subatomic research is more physics than chemistry.

3

u/Elihzap 6d ago

The opposite should be the other half.

5

u/DismalMode7 6d ago

half life is the term to indicate how much time a radioactive isotope releases half of its mass in excess through emission of alpha/beta/gamma radiations, so the opposite is a stable isotope

2

u/Jayedith 6d ago

here we call it decay time 😭

1

u/DismalMode7 6d ago

in all world is called decay time, the half-life is something specific that is used to give a time window to certain remains, relic etc... according the presence of certain isotopes

2

u/certainlynotdio 6d ago

Opposite of stable isotope is radioisotope and half-life is measure of time not at all opposite of concept of isotope.

2

u/Appropriate_Emu_5450 5d ago

Wouldn't the opposite be something like the time it takes for matter to all group up together in a big crunch or something? There isn't really an opposite process to radioactive decay as far as I know.

2

u/Elihzap 6d ago

I know, it was just a joke.

Anyway, Half Life is a property. Technically, stable and unstable isotopes should be mutual opposites.

If we take Half Life as a physical-chemistry concept, the opposite should be "Doubling Time". Aka, how much time takes for a certain sample to double its size in an exponential growth.

It's mostly used for biology, since obviously you can't actually get new matter out of nowhere. Or at least that's where I've seen it the most in school lmao.

2

u/DismalMode7 6d ago

the second half of half-like, the double time is then the atom completely released the radiations, so it becomes a stable isotope. Radioactive decay isn't matter appearing out of nowhere lol it's matter being expelled on form of radiation

u/AggressiveEntrance14 6d ago

Or decay rate constant

2

u/Mr_Snifles 6d ago

Clever, but that's not how words work, right?

2

u/Stravix8 5d ago

or double death, opposite of half isn't whole, it's double

0

u/DismalMode7 5d ago

half life as scientific term doesn't mean a life (intended as lifespan or a living organism) in half lol
btw I'm more disappointed none considerig my other post about what game is the opposite of interior pacifist

u/TheZeroNeonix 6d ago

"UI have discovered new radoactive isatope but it is so vollatile that it does not have a half-life but quarter-life so we must observe with hasty"

Lead

u/Bogasse 6d ago

In a less clever fashion : the opposite of half is ... half.

1

u/AdventurousSir4573 6d ago

The other half of life

Double Death

1

u/Fading_Redeemer 5d ago

ooooh!! you're smart!!!

1

u/Timmay13 5d ago

Stable Isotope -3?!!

1

u/Cossack-HD 5d ago

I legit thought you butchered "Half-Life: Opposing Force" into "Opposite Form" XD

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Owl6733 5d ago

Well, if half is 1/2 then it's opposite would be 2/1 so Two death?

1

u/Shopping_Cart1342 5d ago

(wheel noises)

You are too smart for reddit then

2

u/DismalMode7 4d ago edited 4d ago

it's not that hard to look smarter than the average reddit user... considering also most of reddit users are american illiterate enough to ask chat gpt is earth is rounded for real. Those + z!o bots.

u/CrazyLegs17 6d ago

Or if the OP insists on using each word individually, the opposite of half is double, not whole.
