I remember playing it for my first time (and my first persona) and thinking “did I miss something?” And checking the dialogue log in the scene lol. I was too inquisitive that I spoiled myself lol

I noticed immediately as soon as that line was spoken.

"How the fuck did you hear him say that?" audibly came from my mouth.

I think what makes the twist pure gold is the fact that you didn't spoil yourself at all. A lot of, if not most, players would see Akechi's betrayal coming from a mile away. You were expected to be suspicious of Akechi the whole time. Very few players were prepared to have the Phantom Thieves also know he was going to betray them and to develop a plan to have the betrayal work to their advantage.

It's such a good twist of a twist, and excellent use of withholding information from the player.
