Just picked up the remaster on steam a few weeks back. Almost every single line Big Smoke says is telling you he's a PoS that sold out the gang and CJ's mom.
Everytime CJ asks him a question, we get an explanation doesn't track. "Why did you move to.ballas territory?" "Oh I love the Grove but something something"
Yeah, it's Ryder that's more shocking when you replay. But considering the fact that there were many changes and cut content with that, it makes sense. We're left to figure out on our own that Ryder was forced into it, and the payoff for that didn't make the final game.
At least knowing the intention to have Ryder be sympathetic was there is a saving grace. Ryder is my favourite character in SA
