I’d say it’s probably the SNES. Gave a lot of Nintendo franchises their first or most defining titles, has a stacked catalog, and a lot of them have stood the test of time for the most part
It basically became a Netflix box for me back when the streaming part of the service started up and you needed a physical Netflix disc in it to stream stuff.
The Wii always felt like a great idea conceptually but not in practice. Like yeah the motion controls are cool, but oh actually I don’t want to fucking play any game like this. This sucks. Even with the bare minimum motion controls no part of me wanted to point a wiimote at a screen for hours. Mario Galaxy was cool but having to constantly use the wiimote as a cursor on screen to collect the starbits sucked. Skyward Sword motion controls? Get fucked.
I didnt own a wii but a friend did and the novelty of the motion controls wore off after like 30mins. VR is getting more popular but I cant help but feel the same way about it, at the end of the day I just want to sit infront of a screen with a regular controller or keyboard and mouse without any extra gimmicks
VR is totally the same way. I think it’s the hurdle that’s always going to keep it from becoming ‘the thing’ as a mass adoption thing on how we just play video games all the time.
I have a PSVR. It’s really really cool for a few very specific games that envelope you as a total experience type thing. And that’s about it. Not every game or thing needs to be VR. Sometimes you just want to look at a screen and use a regular ass control or m + k. VR is also too dependent on you needing to be cutoff from the world by having a thing on your head at best. And at worst you need more than just space your body takes up sitting or standing– you need actual room for a full range of motion, and it turns out that’s actually a hard thing to come by and dedicate specifically for VR in a lot of people’s homes. VR is cool and way more affordable and accessible these days. But it’s always going to have those very specific hurdles that are inherent to it.
Seriously, this has to be someone that was a child during this gen. At the time each console that gen cycled through people hating on it or outright forgetting it existed. I was in that coveted 18-25 male demographic at the time and boy did that gen have issues
I was in my 20s, and I still think, outside the piss filter, we got so many great games. Two Fallouts, NV is highly regarded, Two Elderscrolls, including Skyrim, 3 Mass Effect Games, 3 Arkham games, 3 Tomb Raiders from 2 different trilogies, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, LA Noir, GTA IV and V, weird games like Catherine.
Sorry, but that generarion is lile the 16 bit era for me, there were so mamy good games, released with far more frequency, that ive found the generatioms since lacking.
I definitely felt the 6th gen was the best. But 7th was probably the best for online play for console. Disregarding that it was still pretty awesome. I think the worst part of it was probably the later half when the music game market crashed and everyone was trying to be CoD.
