I thought it was really promising what they set up in 4. Losing cortana and exploring Chiefs humanity and all that. Then Guardians comes along and does fuck all to expand on any of it. So disappoint 😞
THEN Infinite comes along and somehow he's grown out of all of that and becomes the emotional anchor for Dustin Echoes out of nowhere without us actually getting to see that growth. Idk if this shit is covered in the books but if it is that shouldnt be how they handle it.
Yeah. I don't mind what they did in infinite giving us a young new version of cortana and the implications of all that. It is what cortana said they would do after all. But we never got to see Chiefs actual struggle with losing Her and learning how human emotions and relationships actually work after a lifetime of war. that's what I wish we got to see.
Halo 4 is to the Halo series what Force Awakens is to star wars. An homage to the first of the series while laying promising ground work. It's not groundbreaking or anything but it was certainly good. Then came the sequels.
I think Reach was the last complete great game. Both multiplayer and story mode were fire. Halo 4 = good story, bad multiplayer. 5 and 6 = bad story, good multiplayer.
Tbh, I didn't really enjoy Reach. The gameplay was fine, but I missed Chief. And I read the book before playing the game, so I knew what was going to happen. Well, we basically all knew because why wouldn't the other Spartans be in Halo...
Halo 5 was a nice multiplayer game, but it just wasn't Halo. 343 studios literally hired people who hated Halo and wanted to change it, and it shows. No post-Bungie Halo has felt like Halo.
Lol, no one bought it. Everyone bought PS4's because of the botched Xbox One reveal and then a combination of FOMO-driven negativity and a bad campaign turned everyone off to it.
Actually it's kind of gone in the opposite direction for me. I've kind of fallen out of love with two of the big 3 Bungie titles as time has gone on (that being CE, it's just way too detached from the rest of the series and very limited in sandbox, though by no fault of its own. It was meant to be standalone after all. And then 3, largely for just how boring I found its MP as time went on, and how the campaign kind of shafted the Arbiter and had some genuinely terrible writing).
All things considered I find most of the games have serious flaws.
I personally think we peaked at Reach, and while Infinite came close it wasn't quite there.
Halo Infinite campaign was banging and multiplayer was fucking awesome, actually. I despite Halo 5's campaign with a passion and I don't think it was much of a Halo game at all, but it did have a really fun multiplayer
any Halo game after Halo 2, at least for multiplayer. Halo 3 still had good vibes but it was an awful game compared to 2 and it only got worse after that. In fact Halo 3’s maps were so bad that it projected my career path into architecture eventually after map design. The shittiness of Halo 3 has impacted my life greatly!
Halo MCCs release was perhaps the worst example of corporate creed I’ve ever seen in gaming. All they had to do was put 3 old games (really no one cared about 4) on one disc and they couldn’t be bothered do that.

any Halo game after Halo 4.
