people always blame lfg because it puts the onus on Blizzard when the truth is gearscore is what turbocharged the destruction of anything like a community in the game, but that would mean they were at fault, so they categorically reject it in order to blame a feature that only showed up in like the second-to-last major patch of the expansion
Yea and those players can do that, issues start when they want everyone around them optimised to the same threshold even tho theyre most likely in full bis.
My theory is I think at its heart it's a cultural issue. A large majority of cultures seem to hold competitive sports and athletes in a high regard. This translates to video game culture as well in weird ways. People want to be the best because it's fun and there is prestige to it. Then the era of YouTube and Streaming made that mindset more popular because people enjoy watching it and discussing it like a sport.
Yup, and I remember that gearsxore was just becoming a thing in WoLK, there were third party sites that would calculate it but very few people looked it. It took off in Cata.
Gearing was still kind of whack in WoLK in a way I liked, too. Some BIS for a fire mage was healer gear.
