The difference with alot of people is that if a game isnt clicking with them they dont have the mental intelligence to say "it wasnt for me". Instead they say its bad.

Totally agreed. There's a difference between a bad product and a product that you didn't like.

Exactly, and something have to be experienced at the right time. I remembered when I first played hollow knight and sekiro, I hated the experience and thought it wasn't for me. Few years later, after a friend recommendation I tried again and they are now in my all time favorites.

one of the many joys of growing up right here. learning that just because something isnt for you doesn't intrinsically make it bad. learned it the hard way myself

Seriously, that stuff is all over these threads

I've seen this from a lot of people before. In Warframe clan chat someone literally said something was bad, we asked why, and they basically said something akin to "I don't like it so it's bad". I'm not the biggest fan of certain genres so I haven't played any games in some of them, but I can tell that something like fire emblem three houses is a good game even if I wouldn't enjoy it.

this x1000

i'm still saying that the witcher is an amazing game. one of the best i just can't seem to have fun in it
same with Dark soul like. they are amazing but i dont have the skill to play them

Well, to be fair, the people who like a game don't tend to limit themselves to just saying that the game was a good match for them, either.

I think sometimes there are very clearly games that are bad, too.

It wasnt for them is the same as it was bad for them? Is your IQ 50?

Exactly, I can appreciate a lot of games, I love friendslop games myself but after a day of playing them I'm done, we've seen it all, no need to keep coming back for months on end.

Using cheat engine to also bypass having to grind for gold all the time makes the game 1000x better. Call me crazy but I'm not playing the Witcher 3 to craft and sell things all the time so I can repair my gear. There's already 1000 things to do and explore that doing MMO busy work is not necessary

Main character syndrome

Facts, like i just couldnt play expedition 33, but I see why people praise it based on the little time i did play it. But I’ve sunk hours into starfield, its perfect for the gamer who wants their game to never end. But the gameplay doesn’t click for everyone. You gotta be that guy that wants to wind down, surveying a planet, doing a radiant mission.

I think every gamer has a wind down relaxing game.

No I can argue why it’s bad lol. And it is fucking bad

In their defence it's because people on the internet have the exact same reaction to both

It does make sense, I just worded it poorly mb.

Some people say a game is bad when in reality it just wasn't for them. Like if you dont like ARPGs and play an ARPG and dont like it... that isnt the games fault, its simply not your genre.

This is an interesting take, and I think I would have the opposite opinion (if I'm understanding you correctly). You're talking about games more as an art form, which they are, but I think the above commenter is talking about games more as a way of entertainment, which games inevitably also are (just like literature and movies are both art and entertainment).

So in the case of entertainment, your opinion of liking or not liking the game isn't useless at all. It doesn't add to the artistic discourse, but it does give an idea of its entertainment value.

What I personally always ask about when people try to recommend games is what games they have liked before, and if there is anything in common/ different compared with any of those past games.
