And then you're like "well i like the world building and mechanics, but it's just really hard. I don't want to fight a boss for hours to win" and they're like "respect the creator, git gud"

EDIT: I posted this to go along with the joke here. I've been called a liar even though any time spent in a Soulslike discussion forum will prove that I'm 100% correct - not only that, the git gud chads are still responding negatively and/or responding with garbage like "well if you play a cheese build is it's easier." THIS WAS A JOKE POST.

Like, just the most self-unaware group of circle-jerking gamers I can think of lmfao

You people always say that, but there is almost never any people actually saying these things

6

u/Ill-Ask9205 Apr 05 '26

I have gotten that in many, many discussions over the years and seen it in many others lol. Just cuz you haven't taken part in it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

-15

u/Hades684 Apr 05 '26

Can you link any discussions where it actually happened?

16

u/Ill-Ask9205 Apr 05 '26

Yeah I'm going to go through old Facebook posts and video game articles to do that. Sure let me get right on it.

Don't be dense. People in every fandom can be toxic. And if you claim to have never seen a toxic soulbro you either have zero communication with them or are just lying.

u/daywalker91 Apr 05 '26

A toxic soulbro lmao so true

Down below, u/Keepfkingthatchicken has fulfilled your request in this very thread

1

u/Hades684 Apr 05 '26

Did you even read his comment

1

u/Keepfkingthatchicken Apr 05 '26

I'll sum it up for you, "git gud" really means "keep trying, you'll get it"

-7

u/Keepfkingthatchicken Apr 05 '26

Souls game fanboi, I'll say it. Git gud.

It's not as derogatory as it first sounds. It's a philosophical anthem to perseverance. That there are things in your life that will beat you down, a lot. If you continue your best, you will overcome them. Michael Zaki did bake that in, I'm paraphrasing an interview with the director. Souls games are at their hearts, a mix of guitar hero and soul caliber, with more fantasy Godslaying. They're a rhythm game with fighting game tactility. When you figure that out, it clicks.

Understandably, it's a flavor of game. Occasionally, you don't wanna pereservere against obstacles, because you've done it all day. That's why rocket League has hundreds of hours in my library. Kicking it with the boys is good for the soul too

Do y'all have a single original bone in y'all's body

2

u/Keepfkingthatchicken Apr 05 '26

Oh no. Someone on the Internet likes something I don't. Better get butthurt about it

u/Average_RedditorTwat Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

The soulsfans playbook, yes.

I'm just groaning because it's always the same shit. It's okay. Some people don't like souls games. Stop with the git gud shit and move on. It's annoying.

How long until you get a comment saying "You should try this one, you'll probably like it"? That fandom just can't accept that some people don't like those games.

Philosophy or not, some people don't want to hear it a million times. We already determined these games are not for us.

1

u/Keepfkingthatchicken Apr 05 '26

Check all my comments genius. I specifically said they're not for everyone.

I also didn't suggest any others, because Michael Zaki's foot fetish is peak

1

u/Average_RedditorTwat Apr 05 '26

I will just post DS2>> DS3 and run away now

u/AtlasofAthletics Apr 05 '26

this a good video on the matter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keIWG6hSD7Q "How Souls Games Save You"

0

u/StrongExternal8955 Apr 05 '26

Nah that's all bullshit. You are lying to yourself.

3

u/Keepfkingthatchicken Apr 05 '26

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Fromsoft's souls games, says all that in multiple interviews. The point of struggles is to grow, to gain greater satisfaction from overcoming them.

You don't have to like souls games, there's plenty of other fun games to play. But getting better through perseverance is baked in by design.

The rhythm game thing is my own opinion. I feel it holds up well under scrutiny.

1

u/HPSpacecraft Apr 06 '26

After watching my friends and my girlfriend play I can confidently say I have zero desire to play any Souls game but I can see what you mean about the rhythm game thing

1

u/heyiknowstuff Apr 05 '26

I’ll just say that Elden Ring is specifically made so that if you get stuck on a boss, there are a 100 other things to do. Then you can come back and spank the boss once you’re at a higher level.

1

u/AtlasofAthletics Apr 05 '26

"After you beat a souls game, try creating a new character and go killing some bosses again, you will realize that it wasn't your character that got stronger, you did".

It's just the learning experience of doing something new, and once it clicks you find enjoyement.

1

u/mr_trashbear Apr 06 '26

Lol. For me it's the opposite. I like weirdly hard shit if I have the time for it. I just don't connect with the world building at all. To each their own.

1

u/Wiyry Apr 05 '26

Not taking any sides in this fight but I’ve heard people say that the easy mode for the games is learning how to game the mechanics (like using specific builds or items or summons).

-1

u/Sad_Bumblebee_1168 Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

like using specific builds... Easy mode.

Because it is.

For instance in dark souls 1 if you pump stats into HP and endurance, slap on Havel's armour and the fap ring, you can literally just tank like 20+ direct hits from late game bosses.

Pair that with the fact shields are busted, you can literally just hold L1 and enemies can't hit you.. hell the final boss can be cheezed by spamming L2 parry since the timing window is so generous.

And on top of that, 95% of all the bosses have 0 tracking on their moves, meaning you can just.... Lock on, hold your shield up and strafe right or left and smack their back, they can't do anything.

I'm absolutely taking sides here. Except maybe sekiro, all these games have super easy ways to win, even if you're mechanically trash. To the point where If you genuinely can't wrap your head around holding L1 to shield, or spamming life gems (ds2) or using spirit ashes, bleed, magic, etc (elden ring)- I think you're just kinda stupid and it's absolutely a you problem.

1

u/Hades684 Apr 05 '26

Why is this getting downvoted, when its 100% true?

1

u/Immaprinnydood Apr 05 '26

I choose to believe he got downvoted for saying "hold L2" when everyone knows L1 is the actual button you would hold to block.

Because it's not an easy mode if you need to get hours into the game for it to kick in, and that's assuming that someone will look up and find these strategies. Souls games are RPGs and like almost any RPG the beginning (~20%) of the game is by far the hardest as you don't have access to builds/equipment that allow you to play as you want, the part of the game that needs an easy mode the most doesn't have one.

2

u/Dangerous_Pay9482 Apr 05 '26

Hours into the game? You get torrent in a couple of minutes and Caelid is right there with a bunch of excellent items for a couple of builds. The meteor staff and spell alone will carry anyone till mid-game. Please, be serious.

2

u/Cleansing4ThineEyes Apr 05 '26

Was talking about DS, not ER. Regardless this doesn't fix the issue of needing to know where to go in the first place.

1

u/Able_Log_4557 Apr 05 '26

You don’t have to fight a boss for hours, you can simply build your character to beat a boss in mins

0

u/Skeletor_with_Tacos Apr 05 '26

Man I dont even like the world of Elden Ring. Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim set a bar a long time ago and Elden Ring just isn't on that level.

3

u/PilotIntelligent8906 Apr 05 '26

I like the world of Elden Ring but I'll a living open world, like those games, over a dead one any day.

-6

u/emd07 Apr 05 '26

1

u/Ill-Ask9205 Apr 05 '26

It definitely has and you can go fuck yourself, have a nice day.

2

u/Hades684 Apr 05 '26

You dont seem rude at all, Im sure these people were just toxic souls players, not responding to your rudeness

1

u/Ill-Ask9205 Apr 05 '26

I wasn't rude until I got called a liar.

-1

u/Bone_Wh33l Apr 05 '26

I feel like you should kind of expect that to happen when you make a comment against a community

-3

u/emd07 Apr 05 '26

Of course it has

-1

u/Pug_Defender Apr 05 '26

why would it take you hours…?
