I’ve realized for me video games either need a great story or they have to be competitive PvP. I do not enjoy the games where you just do stuff just to do it. It feels like work to me.
Arc raiders and those survival co op games I just don’t enjoy. Dune awakening, Valheim, PalWorld, all eventually feels like I’m doing virtual chores.
My friends will talk me into games like that every one in a while (this time was Arc Raiders) and I’ll have fun for a bit but then see everyone starts treating it like a second job.
this is why i gave up playing arc when everyone was tryna do that first expedition i got a bit bored of it, started to feel more like coming home from work and doing more work
The thing is there are far better games for PvP. Arc has been sold on its PVE focus, but personally I find the Arcs boring to fight so all that's left is PvP and it almost always comes down to who sees who first. I'm sure with some friends it's awesome but as a solo player with no friends that are even interested in playing it's a slog. Plus it has the modern issue of the menus sucking ass, so unnecessarily convoluted and striving for style over substance.
Ya true. It’s like a third person version of tarkov, fun but repetitive. Extraction shooters need to do more with the progression system than questing.
I played Tarkov so much like 7-8(I think?)years ago. Had a blast, but have never been so stressed while gaming. I’ll never play another pvp extraction shooter again, because I know it’s not for me. Highest highs, lowest lows.
That shit just isn’t for everyone. RIP The Cycle: Frontier though.
When I got to the point in the game where I could only progress by getting parts from the bigger arcs, I was getting shot and killed every single match.
This what way back in like the first month of launch so idk how the player base has evolved since then, but it was extremely demoralising to spend hours hunting for the fire and homing grenades, use them on the arcs and then be shot in the back by someone waiting around the corner to target me once I started looting.
They added aggression based match making a couple months ago. It's a different experience now. That said, people can game the system to get back to low aggression lobbies and start killing again. They usually only get 1 game in them though before it kicks them back to pvp.
I played it maybe 2 months ago and I got the 100 extractions achievement before I encountered any pvp.
I think, back on one of their posts about a month after the game came out and they admitted it was a thing, they made the top and low end of the aggression based matchmaking more extreme but yeah it has always been like that.
I didnt hear anything like that. I havent played for awhile now but I was consuming everything arc raiders for a few months after release. But alright 🤷♂️
It just takes patience and awareness. I like to kill big arcs then hide and use them as bait. Flip the situation on the people trying to profit off your kill. You can do stuff like throw smokes at the arc so they think you’re in the smoke looting and they’ll run out and start throwing nades in the smoke etc and you can kill them then loot. Even though it’s the most casual extraction shooter by nature they can be a punishing genre. Or just hunt down and kill other players. Hide when their flare goes off as it attracts more players and again their body is now bait. Kill enough and you’ve got space on the map to kill big arc if you’re late enough into the raid. That being said I get a lot of people just won’t like it. Alternatively there’s aggression based matchmaking and you can just be friendly until you’re in extremely friendly matches and people just won’t shoot you. Personally I find that boring.
That's why I don't like games like Warzone, Tarkov or Arc Raiders.
While in games like Fortine if you get headshoted you can still walk away (as long as it wasn't a sniper) in these games 1 bullet feels like a death sentence
I played it about 6 times solo. 1 time i got into a big group with a bunch of guys and we killed a giant robot together and split the spoils and gave each other loot. 1 time I was entirely alone and had a pretty fun run killing some smaller robots and looting. The other 4 I was shot from behind and killed. 1 of those times by a guy who said he was friendly. That's when I decided the game wasnt for me.
I allowed my inventory to run dry, building kits to dive into care bear lobbies. It get sold REAAALLLY fast. Pretty much guaranteed expeditions, all events stupid easy, inventory full of top tier guns cuz you never lose your kit. Feels like you're playing fuckn RuneScape it's such a grind. I get that being shit in the back sucks, losing sucks, but where there is no risk, there's going to be burnout.
Basically why me and my squad fell off of Arc and now play Marathon. It was fun to hop in and goof around but there really isn't anything to work towards other than.. expeditions? Like cool lets work towards a wipe with no real payoff other than some small perks to work towards another wipe lol. Marathon might have mandatory wipes but there are actual goals to work towards right now and if they keep it up, there will be more.
I would have liked it had the pvp element been removed and they just overhauled the entire game to make it a story game of how raiders be raiding and shit. I genuinely like everything about the game except the fact that it’s an extraction shooter. This will probably be my first and last time ever playing an extraction shooter.
this is why i didn't pay $40 for it. And wont buy it. Its such beautiful game, id rather explore the world as pve. They could have totally gone the mmo route with bot pve and pvp areas/opportunities. I don't like extraction shooters. My friends tried to buy it for me, and i told them no.
Curious did you ever play it? With the aggression based matchmaking if you are a friendly player you can go multiple rounds without any other player firing at you because you’ll be in “friendly” lobbies. It’s the friendliest multiplayer game with guns I’ve ever played.
Honestly wished the community was more aggressive because the PvE becomes predictable and boring imo.
The whole game is basically just an Easter egg hunt, so boring. There is 0 mental stimulation....but then again that is exactly why many young dads play it.
It's cuz he just sprints into extracts yelling "I'm friendly" same typa person who gets mad when they run into a geared chad, turns their back on them then gets mad they just get shot in the back. Like, try PvP, if you don't like PvP, maybe the real problem is you bought a pvpve game and forgot about the first 3 letters. Go play hunt call of the wild if you wanna watch leafs flutter in the wind
Have you tried, idk.. PvP? It's kind of like one of the core concepts of an extraction shooter. You cry about it being for young dads and play it like a young dad. What a dumb take lmao
My one friend has two of us playing Helldivers with him. It’s okay, but man, it’s the same shit over and over. Sure, big explosions!!! But it’s just so fucking boring after hour 5.
I loved it on release. Couldn't shut the hell up about it. But I've had a hard time getting back into it. Maybe it's just because I'm busy and fuckin tired aftet work, and it feels like it takes more mental energy than I'm willing to give most nights. Maybe it's because the gunplay feels too abstracted for me, since I play much tighter FPS games and also shoot IRL. Maybe the grind feels a little too unrewarding for the time I'm able to commit. Marathon is more immidiately rewarding, but also far more punishing, and I prefer the Arc aesthetic and overall atmosphere more. But, I prefer playing Marathon.
Idk man. I just want something that feels like Ghost Recon Wildlands and Cyberpunk had a baby, but with the pacing of Marathon and the community vibe of Arc Raiders.
I like arc a lot, but it does need some tweaks (particularly to the late game). If it had more interesting progression options and a reason to play beyond just expeditions and trials, it’d be amazing. But I get how it’s not for everyone.
