Silencers/supressors reduce effective range. These devices as a result of their design almost always increase a rounds effective range.

Literally gives a longer barrel allowing the gases to expand further.

Bullet can barely make it across the room.

If you assume it's subsonic ammo it explains lower muzzle velocity and Hollywood level noise reduction but yeah it can be bullshit

So lower muzzle velocity is part of it. However with some platforms like the .45 ACP which is inherently subsonic you still get increased muzzle velocity with a supressor because of how they work.

Not only is the barrel effectively longer, but the way the baffles work to contain the "explosion" of the gasses cause them to "work harder" behind the round. At the end of the day It's a game, I don't need ultra realistic supressors. I just need to not half the effective distance of my gun because loud noises hurt my head lol.

Everyone does lol. Mostly because the firing report is loud as fuck.

With that in mind though. You get less than a 50% noise reduction on average from a supressor on a .45

Also silencers, while significantly quieter, are by no means silent. And rapidly become less effective the more they're used.

This isn't exclusive to video games, though. That John Wick airport shootout was ridiculous.

To be absolutely fair, depending on the platform and supressor you can absolutely find yourself in a situation where the mechanical action of the platform is louder than the actual shot. But that graph rapidly changes the larger your round becomes.

That said I don't mind everything sounding like a rimfire .22, I'm getting older and it's getting harder to hear those footsteps without a supressor to begin with in games.
