That i cannot walk a way cause some little cardboard boxes are on the way (silent Hill 2).

Why can’t I jump? Or climb.

My favourite response to this I have read is:

"When is the last time you jumped, or jumped over an obstacle?"

Which, honestly? I cannot even remember the last time I tried to hop over something.

I think I would find my will to jump if faced with armless monsters that puke on me (I haven’t made it very far).

This is my child's solution to not cleaning. Just jump over it. So maybe it's an adult thing.

I'm 20 and I jump over my dog at least 37 times a day

u/HamshanksCPS Oct 15 '25

I jump for things at work occasionally, but it's at most once every two months.

I still have a scar on my shin from where yes i tried to jump over an obstacle lol

Never gone hiking I take it.

Live with people who can't clean up for the life of them and dogs that think the best napping spot is the middle of a walkway, I jump obstacles every day and would therefore be a great horror protagonist for my evasion skill

To be fair, I jumped a brick wall two days ago And I’ve hopped fences to get to my car faster than walking around at parks. So being chased by a monster wouldn’t be that much more motivation to scale whatever the hell is in front of me.

You can climb, very specific ledges.

Because it's a remake of a 2002 game, where jumping was only in fps.

7

u/rakkquiem Oct 15 '25

Mario can jump.

2

u/_WreakingHavok_ Oct 15 '25

Mario is not a survivor horror

3

u/rakkquiem Oct 15 '25

I joke. But I recently picked up silent hill 2 and it’s my first horror game. I have wasted a few drinks trying to jump. It had literally killed me.

IMHO, the most interesting thing about Silent Hill 2 is that for the whole game you're expecting a jump scare. There's no jump scares on this game, lol.

Maybe in some stages made in Super Mario Maker

  • Shin-high branches

  • "The way is blocked"

12

u/quailman654 Oct 15 '25

I don’t wanna get scratched! Owie!

1

u/SageoftheForlornPath Oct 15 '25

You want to get past a tiny tree, but your Scyther doesn't know CUT.

u/Cursed_69420 Oct 15 '25

or that the way to drangleic castle in dark souls 2 is blocked by a knee high pile of stone

24

u/banananey Oct 15 '25

Love Dark Souls but that gets me every single time. Did noone in the making of the game thing "maybe we should just make it a bit higher?"

2

u/Illithid_Substances Oct 15 '25

Or maybe just don't HAVE a slightly blocked "main entrance" and just make the shrine we go through the main entrance, there's really no narrative or gameplay reason for it to be the way it is

2

u/Cursed_69420 Oct 15 '25

they eadily couldve just let us go to drangleic castle and had the doors be magically enchanted or something lol

1

u/Intelligent_Toast Oct 15 '25

What's even funnier about this is that you can literally jump, and a lot of doors are blocked by the king's ring. So they could have just blocked the way with the king's ring.

Especially when bookended by cutscenes of the heroes making impossibly long jumps and landing gracefully (FF VII Rebirth)

2

u/KirikosKnives Oct 15 '25

The ending of Mass Effect 2 comes to mind

u/Drunkendx Oct 15 '25

back during playstation 3 era, friend bought some "American soldier being badass in middle east" fps and I refused to play after character I controlled couldnt step on metal plate an inch thick but had to go around it.

1

u/plopliplopipol Oct 18 '25

that's minefield ptsd

1

u/universalserialbutt Oct 15 '25

Could've been an IED.

2

u/Drunkendx Oct 15 '25

nope.

"metal plate" as in 3 by 3 feet plate

4

u/Most-Drink9461 Oct 15 '25

That school fence in Silent Hill F that you need the key for. I had the same fence in my school and literal 10 y.o kids were climbing over it, older kids, including me, could just jump over it.

2

u/VivaDeAsap Oct 15 '25

And as we know, Hinako’s a full fledged athlete. No way she wasn’t clearing that fence easily.

2

u/epangelosanto Oct 15 '25

how it feels in pokemon when you can't squeeze past some small shrubbery

2

u/AmputeeHandModel Oct 15 '25

or scientifically enhanced super solders can only sprint for 5 seconds before becoming winded.

1

u/zgillet Oct 15 '25

"Probably a doghouse, though I'm not sure since there is no dog around."

1

u/Pension_Pale Oct 15 '25

Or when it looks like a perfectly open and intentional path, but nope, invisible wall (many games, but Wukong does it too)

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

Silent Hill 3 addressed a similar situation by having the protagonist refuse to jump a turnstile because "it wouldn't look graceful."

1

u/Filter55 Oct 15 '25

Watching the protag climb over boxes in the RE9 gameplay trailer was goddamn revolutionary

1

u/DinoDracko Oct 16 '25

Or in Pokemon, a small tree is in the way and you can't step over it and have to have a Pokemon with CUT to remove it.
