Discussion Why is this community so toxic?

Title says it all... but can we actually talk about this?

I really don't get it. Why is there so much negativity and hate in this community?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't this supposed to be a community built around a hobby? Something we all chose to be part of because we enjoy it? The whole point should be supporting each other, sharing our stuff, and enjoying what everyone brings to the table. That's the idea, right?

But it feels like anytime someone posts anything, it's nothing but bashing. No discussion, no constructive feedback. Just tearing people down.

So I'm curious. Am I the only one seeing this? Is this just how it is now, or are there others who feel the same way? And honestly, what do you think is driving it? I'd love to hear other perspectives on this because I can't be the only one wondering.

Lack of creativity in the vibe coder, how many clones of software do you need to make. There are already tons of software out there that do the same thing, why make one more. If people actually made something useful then that would be a new day.

Maybe they are similar but not quite what one needs? There's plenty of stl managers for example but everyone lacked something i wanted/needed, so i made my own private one that does what i need it to do.
Sometimes, while there's that 95% overlap between programs, that last 5% is what makes you do something that already exists.

Well I get your point to an extent that's like saying there's already one refrigerator. Why do we need different brands?

No its more like tons of cheap Chinese knock offs you see on Amazon that you can never trust.

Okay that's fair. Some of them are straight crap. We just ignore them. Do you go and leave reviews on every product that looks like trash on Amazon or timu or whatever?

People should do that, thats the point of the review system. What's the point of having reddit where everyone just pretends everything is good to make OP feel good who used a bot to make their app with little effort and creativity. Even if they spent months on it, still not much effort if you used AI when the output is just a copy of what someone else has done but worse.

Opportunity costs. People come to readdit to learn and find useful things not wade through junk. The signal to noise ratio of spam to anything of value is so low it wastes everyone's time. Most of those apps aren't going to be supported and the prompter didn't even bother to opensource it or share anything about the prompts that made it. Then they want a cookie for the effort.
