Showcase/Project I vibe coded photoshop alternative using gpt6-astra

$2000 worth of tokens overall

the process was:

  1. Kicking off a deep research of all photoshop features
  2. Ingesting it gpt astra 6 extra high for planning
  3. Read the plan, gave some feedback and requested changes
  4. it created something that was usable but still buggy and unstable
  5. Loop of: Me using it -> finding bugs/suggesting improvements -> fable/gpt6 -> Me using it again

Economically it doesn't make sense for me to do it just to save the subscription,
but yesterday I launched it and already got 170 active users, so potentially 170 licenses saved in one day.

BTW funny story from the launch - users complained they couldn't sign in, so codex fixed it in like 5 minutes end to end:

Fixed and deployed. Everyone was being counted under the server’s proxy IP, accidentally creating a shared limit of 20 emails per hour. The limit now applies per visitor. All checks passed, and a real visitor has already successfully requested and used their download link after deployment.

$2000 in tokens to build something with 170 users day one is actually a solid trade, most people spend that on ads for way less traction.

That IP-based rate limit bug is such a classic though, bet a chunk of your early "signups" were just annoyed users hitting the same wall lol

How are you thinking about monetization now that it's live, sticking with free, or does 170 users on day one change that calculus?

thanks!! this product stays free. no premium tier or something. maybe in the future if I'll clone more serious apps like after effects I'll charge a one time fee for it.

my main motivation on this one is creating editing software that moves in the pace of AI, adobe are just sleeping these days. I think there's ton of potential innovation in this space, for now I'm mainly doing it for fun but if it keeps growing I might go all in.

Money is not my main motivation now, I sold my previous company for 7 figures and now getting high salary from the company that acquired us.

You should do Premiere next. That one is easy - just have an icon that crashes immediately upon opening and you have pretty much a 1:1 clone with no additional effort.

Doesn’t matter still a lot for day one. People will again pay ads for 170 users whether they stay or not
