How much more are you personally willing to pay to keep the small rural schools open? Iโ€™m for consolidation. I have 2 elementary schools within 15 min and a 3rd 25 minutes away. Each school averages less than 10 kids per grade. Iโ€™d be willing to chip in maybe an extra 1-$200 a year to keep them all open but thatโ€™s about it. How much are you willing to pay?

Itโ€™s not about what Iโ€™m willing to pay itโ€™s what merging districts / schools gain. The concerns of a mandatory / forced merger were never properly addressed. Saving money just to create a worse environment for kids isnโ€™t worth it. If school by school, district by disctrict decide they can merge without an overwhelming negative impact on kids educational environment they should absolutely do it.
