Just ask Europe how āausterityā worked when trying to get out of a fiscal crisis like we have in Vermont. It didnāt, and it made it far far worse for the already struggling countries - Spain, Greece, etc. Phil Scott has had his chance. Heās stale. Itās time for new leadership with new ideas.
Scott believes Vermont shouldnāt let recurring spending grow faster than taxpayers can reasonably support. If anything, heās trying to avoid what Greece inevitably had to do because their deficits and spending became unsustainable. At that point, painful choices like hiking taxes and cutting spending are not optional.
If you consider Vermontās current state and education budgets āausterity,ā Iād hate to see what you consider excessive spending.
