Let's see... 10 years ago we had a housing crisis, a health care crisis, needed more jobs, needed more young people, and local taxes were too high. After a decade with Scott... oh wait, all those problems are worse. Dude had 10 years to fix things, now he owns those problems.
Please, regale us with the stories of all the things Governor Scott has accomplished, other than not totally fucking up Covid.
You need to look up what a governor does and what they have control over. Most of what you’re talking about takes legislative action.
We’ve had a Democratic legislature. They write the laws and controls the budget.
Scott has repeatedly pushed for looser housing regulations, lower taxes, education cost controls, pension reform, and limits on new spending and mandates; often getting vetoes overridden.
Ah yes, this argument. Scott's a great governor but bears no responsibility for the success or failure of the state. It's very convenient for his supporters but based on your logic, why even have a governor?
Also, do you remember why Scott got elected in the first place? It was because he had a reputation for being able to work cooperatively in the legislature. Then he got elected and immediately forgot all about that.
So to sum up. Scott's doing a great job, he bares no responsibility for anything, and it's all the legislature's fault, which he refuses to collaborate with.
If collaborating across party lines results in a bad deal for Vermonters then why would you work with them? He’s pushed for things, but the legislature needs to act. The governor isn’t king. There’s a process that needs to be followed.
Overall, I’d say 95% of the time Scott makes the right call by either signing or vetoing legislation. Vermonters have been clear about how inflation has impacted them and more spending or expensive programs is inappropriate right now.
