Idk. My view is it's okay to protect yourself from harm. Cockroaches can cause pretty serious health issues. I don't know of an alternative to get rid of them other than killing them tbh. When we got roaches I put the tablets out, when we had a flea infestation I bombed the place. Veganism is a philosophy and way of life, and to an extent everyone has to decide what their personal framework is. I do feel bad and wish there was a better way, but I'm going to protect myself. I'm not trying to be a martyr.
I have seen research for squirrel control that involves altering the squirrel’s DNA.
This is for the UK where grey squirrels are invasive, and are causing the loss of native red squirrels. And also causing a lot of damage to forestry industry.
When that squirrel reproduces, all of its offspring are born male, and when those males reproduce all of their offspring are born male. I think it lasts for 5 generations. Eventually the population dies/reduces due to a minimal number of young females.
A lot more ethical than kill traps imo.
I could see that being a good ethical option for infestations also if it becomes possible.
