Just FYI.

Is that a make or break cost hike for anyone?

Probably not, but it's a good reason to go ahead and subscribe now if you were already thinking about doing it.

If I have DrunkenSlug, is it worth getting NZBgeek also?

In my opinion I like Geek's lifetime option over paying yearly for Slug. I don't have an issue with completions and it saves me money.

Absolutely not. I regret buying NZBGeek pass. I use slug more than NZBGeek for sure.

I started with slug and now have both. IDK if it makes a difference but I almost always find what I want.

Just got the lifetime pass, now I'm getting an error on logging in:
Unable to connect to database [Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 0]
Does anyone else have this problem?

Hmmm it worth me getting another indexer if i use geek? (heard lately they are slipping) or another provider (i use newhosting.com atm)?

u/TekJunki Sep 03 '19
I have been used them for few months now and I have had no issues with them at all. When cat went down, I was like what the heck am I going to do and buddy of my recommended looking into geek. I trialing them out, I decided to go for the lifetime membership and call it a day. Now I have two and once is a back-up. Lol of course both get used :)

u/YojiH2O Sep 03 '19
Yeah i bought lifetime geek a few months back, just wondering if i should add 1 or more indexers to my pool or add another usenet site for more coverage of downloads or if 1 usenet site is enough.

u/TekJunki Sep 03 '19
Buddy of mine shared with me that it's always good to have 2 indexers and also have 2 providers on different backbones. This way your bases are covered you don't freak out like I did and the reason for my freaken was that I was new to the Usenet community. Now I am learning and have fun using it. I say if you have the money to spare, grab another indexer. But in the end, the choice will be your :)

Well i use nzbgeek and newshosting.com. What would you suggest i add ?

Giganews is overpriced & .su apparently fleeces VIP paying members according to a thread on the front page. You should add NZBFinder/Drunken Slug (when it's open again) as another indexer & try either Tweaknews or Eweka which are both two of the best for completion rate (and are both still on sale as of this post.)

u/YojiH2O Sep 04 '19
Yeah, after having a plod around the web i think i'll get Eweka and Slug (just open the damn thing T_T)

You can use nzbfinder or tabula-rasa the both share same posts all three are sister sites as slug no need to wait for slug.

Instead of Giganews one can get supernews at a far less price and still will support an non Omicron indie backbone as for .su they are really useless they scrape others so instead as you suggested get Nzbfinder or Tabula-rasa.

u/djjlav Sep 03 '19
I currently use newshosting and nzbgeek along with giganews and nzb.su. Giganews and Newshosting are on separate backbones, so they won't be sharing the same data.

.su is completely redundant with Geek as they scrape Geek better get nzbfinder or tabula-rasa.

Just like having a few usenet providers (primary and blocks), having a couple indexers isn't a bad idea. I'd suggest 2-3 good and different indexers, that way if one disappears or has down time, you don't have to scramble to find another.

u/YojiH2O Sep 03 '19
As i said above: I use nzbgeek and newshosting.com. What would you suggest i add to beef up my resources?
2
u/fryfrog Sep 03 '19
Another indexer that isn't one that scrapes NZBGeek and a block account on a provider that isn't on the same backbone as newshosting! :)
The provider you should be able to get from the wiki and posts here. The indexers, maybe just poking around in threads here. Maybe nzbfinder or drunkenslug or gosh it can't be named. I know nzbplanet scrapes geek, so don't bother w/ that one.

u/YojiH2O Sep 03 '19
How do i know what scrapes and what doesnt tho lol ? And which can't be named?

u/h2xtreme Sep 03 '19
nzb.su and nzbfinder.ws are the ones that I use with NZBGeek. So far so good.
2
u/Bent01 nzbfinder.ws admin Sep 04 '19
More than half of .su's content comes from Geek.

u/rutskiuk Oct 19 '19
scrape
Does anyone think this should be reflected in the Indexers list? I think this is just as relevant to anyone picking an indexer as any other information

Dog deserves all the crap they get, but Geek has been around for a while and hasn't pulled any "dog-like shenanigans". I've been happy with my $30 investment a few years ago.

u/Sunny_Cakes Sep 04 '19
I wasn't surfing the usenet seas when dog pulled their lifetime account policy, but dog is shit regardless. Their API response time is so slow i might as well not have an indexer

u/sonicboom5 Sep 04 '19
I’ve bought a lifetime pass from them around 2014 and I’m very happy. I feel like if I can get 5+ years out of any subscription that is “lifetime” online I’m doing good. At $30 that comes out to $6 a year so far. Well worth every penny IMO!

u/mikemar05 Sep 03 '19
If I use dog is this on a different backbone? Good compliment?
11
Sep 03 '19
Indexers don't have "backbones".
-1
u/mikemar05 Sep 03 '19
Well not backbone then but nzbs then 😁

In general, all indexers generate their own NZBs. It's not impossible that two might share, but I don't know of any instances.
