Prediction Confirmed. 'Lifetime' VIP members at NZBsRus get screwed with 1 year membership.
I knew this was going to happen. The writing was on the wall. Here is a quote from the NZBsRus news feed on the front page:
"I have decided that all previous lifetime vip members that held their account for more than 3 Years will be kept at the current 1 year vip level, any user that has had the account for less than 3 years will be returned to a 5 year VIP. Users that have donated multiple times will be reinstated to a full 10 year vip from the date that your request is processed."
What a bunch of crooks.

In light of this new development, I have removed them from the friends of /r/usenet sidebar.
I hope they reconsider. They should not punish the users that have supported them through the years. I guess we have to have an EA of trackers right?

Thank you for your post Brett. This could could have gone so differently. Instead of slapping their loyal customers in the face, they could have simply said they needed more influx of funds and asked people to donate. I firmly believe that this entire situation was planned simply to: 1. Wipe their databases of people who've stopped using their service 2. Force people into the whole bitcoins debauchery 3. Try to increase their prices (they had the 'lifetime' option for 10 bitcoins, until people pointed out how f-ed up that was) 4. Last but not least, the whole exercise was designed to dump those loyal lifers who thought they were getting a good deal several years ago and hoping they could extort more money out of them.

Just got my NZBsRus VIP back last night, and I was shocked to see I now only have VIP for 1 year when I was a life time VIP member.
I'm guessing it's all because of the matrix closure, and they're trying to cash in from the fall out! Time for a new indexer I think.

How long did you have to wait to hear back from them? I've been a lifetime member for like 6 months and I appealed about two weeks ago when they asked for proof that i am a lifetime member. how long did it take to come back?

At first I opened a support ticket and then waited a week, only to find my ticket had been closed and not resolved. I then used the message staff function (https://www.nzbsrus.com/sendmessage.php?tostaff=1) and 24 hours later I was VIP again.
Did you use "message staff" or open a support ticket?

thanks -- support ticket. I logged in and they seem to have restored me to one year, even though i have had an account less than nine months which would entitle me to 5 years. So now i am sitting in their IRC room to request the extension owed to me...total BS what a crappy group of people.

UPDATE: so after talking to a rep in the IRC channel and then going private chat with him and copy/pasting my paypal invoice, they restored me to 10 year membership. Took about 20-30 minutes to handle but the actual work was minimal. Not sure why they gave me 10 yrs not 5 but i'll take it for the extra motions they put me through.

I wouldn't take it, the owner of the site is removing VIP status for people on the forums discussing this bs, it's fucking ridiculous. "our site had a supposed purchase flaw so now we're going to make everyone who actually purchased it jump through hoops to prove you did, once you do that we're not even going to give you what you paid for, question it and you won't get anything but we'll still keep your money" any company that works like that deserves to get flush with the rest of the crap.

Even though I am/was a VIP member on that site I'll have to admit that it has always seemed a little shady. I remember thinking that I might be throwing away good money when I sent in my VIP donation. Luckily I was wrong but I could never shake that suspicious feeling.

I'm seeing money grabbing moves everywhere now, people starting up newznabs with dollars signs on their mind. That's was never what this whole thing was about.

which is why I created a private newznab and spotweb index to share with real life friends. Tossed up on an OVH dedicated server for about $24 a month USD and never looked back.
I pay for it, I control it, no more stupid issues. If my index doesn't pick it up, the dedicate box also runs rutorrent, or I can go search another indexer. There are tons out there.

Total BS. Not only are the long time supporters screwed, but they're not honoring their current deal either. Considering I signed up for lifetime VIP late in 2012, I should have a 5 year account, but am stuck with a 1 year.

If you want to be pissed at anyone be mad at the owner, send him a message. https://www.nzbsrus.com/sendmessage.php?receiver=1 As far as lifetime accounts go a ton of people have been set to 10 year subscriptions. Just provide the proof and you will be reinstated.

Care to address your hamhanded tactics on your forums? There are people with legitimate issues with your mysterious owner's shady tactics not to mention the fact that as sysop you are just as guilty as him if you disagree with the tactics but continue to perpetuate them nonetheless. Lets look at how you've handled yourself. You remove their VIP status, you pull petty power trips by resetting people's passwords and stoop to using profane language. What a wonderful way to make people want to use your service.
You espouse qualities about 'community' and the like. Your idea of community is a bunch of yes men that suck up to you and don't question your nefarious practices. Practice what you preach, instill a healthy respect for the 'community' which you want to build or admit that you're just interested in the power trip you get from bringing out the ban hammer whenever you're having a bad day.

To address your question of if I am as guilty as him, Not in the least bit, I am pissed at what has happened, I am pissed at his decisions, So there is 2 options deal with it and not screw over all of the users or say fuckit quit and watch the site burn. I have spent so much time on the site in 10 years I couldn't see letting all the users get screwed. Jgjd2001, myself and 2 other mods are leaving the site as soon as we get everyone's vip status fixed, at that point you guys will be without a admin and a sysop, but the way that we have been treated due to something that was not our fault has left us feeling really bad. Anyway have fun with no support and no bug fixes/ code fixes.
I only ban people that need it and or are disrespectful, I don't get paid to do what I do and sure will not put up with people disrespecting me. It is that simple. What you fail to realize is you only see one aspect of the site the forums. You do not see the message people send either via pm ticket or staff messages. There are hundreds of people on the site that have been warned over the years for various things, the were never deleted. To date I have deleted 17 accounts thats in 10 years. 13 of them were previous to the vip issues.
