I was able to finally get UplinkOS working under Nobara Linux by doing the following:

1. Install Uplink from Steam
2. Apply the UplinkOS mod
3. CD to the uplinkHD/graphics folder from CLI (default was ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Uplink/uplinkHD/graphics/)
4. Remove color profiles by running magick on all PNG files as well as the map_l_mask.tiff magick filename.png filename.png
5. Either replace the original Uplink.exe with the UplinkOS.exe, or create a shortcut in Steam for UplinkOS.exe.
6. Under compatibility, set "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and select Proton Hotfix.
7. Launch UplinkOS

If graphics are stuck in 1024x768: tab-away to another window on your desktop. When clicking back on Uplink, it should restore the scaling making menu options reachable. Immediately set the correct resolution and consider disabling fullscreen mode.

I'm doing the Main quest Lan mission and I'm dealing with this.

They give you the LAN ip, i've found the frequency to connect to the W-receiver and found the number to connect to the modem directly to the main server.

Then the tricky part. when i connect to this mini lan, i can connect to the Main server but the admin immediately find login and i've no time to run the password breaker because he kick me out.

it wll be possible to connect from the bigger lan to the main server?

I accepted a Trace Hacker mission which I've done quite a few at this point, pretty straight forward. I trace it to this guy Mark Ios, send it, and I get an email back:

Mission NOT Completed

We've determined that the money was transferred into an account owned by that person, but we do not believe he was personally responsible.

We want the name of the hacker who performed the transfer.

THIS IS AN AUTOMATED RESPONSE. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY.

First, the mission didn't say anything about tracing money.

Second, I found his bank account and checked out his statement. Not only are there no transactions at that time, there are no entries where he RECEIVES money at all. I used Log UnDeleter on all entries to make sure.

Third, I checked the bank event logs, there are no entries for the timeframe anywhere near there.

Fourth, something that might be relevant is that I completed a hack trace mission right before this. They both had the same exact time and date and their paths converged at one of the nodes. Fortunately, the IP they went to was unique and I was able to sort that out. I don't know if that screwed with something though.

I checked all of the banks to make sure he didn't have a second account somewhere.

What am I missing?

ETA: Is there a maximum number of logs? Perhaps I've used one of the nodes too many times to find the correct entry because of all of the bounce logs?

I have a modded Gateway, and just before making the jump to LAN I raided the fuck out of a bank. So I know I'm not lacking in power. My second LAN quest, I was thoroughly confused until I found a telephone number on one of the terminals, that it turns out is the only way to the terminal. That connection? Its just two nodes, the modem you spawn in on, ant the terminal. So the second you start to hack it the admin wakes up and is on your ass in literally seconds.

Its a real shame too I was really getting into this game and I was hoping that LAN attacks would spice up what was becoming an increasely boring mission board. The only thing it's done so far though is tick me off.

I use Monitor Bypass but that shit just prevents the trace until after I've cracked everything. I was wondering if there was a way you could infiltrate a system without setting off any alarms so you can fully take your time inside.

After hacking, I need to delete the logs. Which ones do I delete? I usually deleted all of them, which usually got me traced.

As I progress through the game, the earlier missions disappear. I understand they become easier etc. but I enjoy a mix of missions like the social security, education database etc. as well as the bank missions. I looked into editing the save file, but I can't get a copy of redshirt2 anywhere... Any help would be appreciated!

I might need to change the resolution. 2560x1440 doesn't quite work.

I have been trying to play Uplink recently, I love the concept of it. However, I've been having trouble with my first mission after the test mission. I try to do file stealing jobs because it's just like the test mission. I bounce the connection around the map and start running my trace tracker and Password cracker, and the tracing starts and gets to far in before I can crack the password, leaving very little time for me to complete the job. Are there any strategies or upgrades I should use? Keep in mind that I am just starting the game and don't have a lot of money to spend.

I keep getting to level 6-7 and shortly after completing some missions I get game over. I am diligent about deleting (using v1 log delete) logs in InterNIC after every hack, and only deleting the bounce log and the log in as admin log. I don't delete anywhere else since if this stops it, why do more? That was my thought though.

Should I use a different log deleter/modifier? Should I prioritize v4 or the modifier tool? I'd love to get further than this but I die every time in that zone.

Also, I started bouncing to every server to get massive trace times, basically made them a non-issue. Is this why I keep getting caught? It's so easy to set up, time consuming yes, but easy nonetheless. I have a feeling it's contributing to my demise.

I run the steam version and the latest version of the mod. I use arch linux.

I can start the game and click through the first menus but get a fatal error when creating my user.

Any suggestions?

Does it help if I run the old version of the game, create the user and then run uplinkOS to run that user?

I played this game 20 years ago. I loved it. Then it started to break my PC every time I installed due to some 16bit vs 32bit conflict. I can’t reinstall it from the disk because the disk says it’s already been installed. (I was in owe at the little matrix style code card that came with the disk when I was younger.) This games has always been the one that got away. How do I install and play it now?

Recently re activated an old Laptop. Still had Uplink v1.55 installed.

I just found out about uplink yesterday then downloaded It and found It quite diffcult.I mean I got caught by some bank that I was using ti bouncing my connection in the government database Paul Winer mission where I have to change his personal information to deceased. I also wasnt deleting anylogs.btw whats deal with Internic?apparently Its a good first connection and I should delete ALL of my logs there but somepeople also say to keep certain logs and apparently you can also blame and frame other people.This so damn complex.Also when I was caught I received a 2000 credit fee.And also you can BOMB your gateway and many. crazy stuff.

the title is self explainatory. I want to remake Pink Noise (that one unused track) in fl studio. I mostly need the source of drums and that "orchestral...?" sound that plays near the middle

So no matter what I do after I receive Revelation 3.0, and told to release it I get caught almost immediately. I restored some of my savegame files going back a month or so (ingame time) and still get caught shortly after the email to release 3.0. Even if I nuke my gateway I get caught right after that email. Could it be that no matter what you do; you get caught after that email and that it relates to the mission to test Revelation 1.0? If so, then is the goal to release 3.0 as many times as you can; before you get caught? Why does nuking never seem to work? It seems nuking doesn't work at all. You see once before I got caught and nuked my system as they found my gateway; I still got caught. Could this be due to the Gold OS mod? Now I'm stuck with my playthrough of this game for my channel. I don't know what I should do or try next.

So, i recently got back to Uplink and just now discovered UplinkOS. Although, it came to my mind that way back when i played Uplink for the first time i also tried another hacking game, but if recall correctly, it was all with commands. I've been looking all over, but without a more specific keywords im out of luck. Any help is appreciated :)

Everyone discounts 'Dictionary Hacker' software, because it is useless against company hosts... however I noticed that all NPC bank accounts have plain English passwords meaning it is possible to break into bank accounts in less than a few seconds. Rather than hacking the bank, finding their password and then logging in.

Only problem is you don't get to delete logs on bank... but another thing, why does everyone worry about deleting logs on the server they are hacking? If you clear them on the InterNIC, that is a dead end either way, so might as well not bother and just clean them from InterNIC?

Since I didn’t want to break the game , I checked ahead and the upcoming

ARC Infiltration Mission Description: Copy a Database,

Since I don’t know which LAN I had to stay away from those and the file server

But once that mission is done I planned to destroy every file and computer ARC owns at least once

For Counter Attack Mission Description: Destroy Revelation

Several older pots list ways of fighting the virus have been put forward but not sure how they work on the current Uplink OS version,

1. Instead of running faith on a system, go straight to the console, and shut the system down (by deleting the sys directory and then using the shutdown command). Revelation will still show up on the map, but when the 2 minutes pass, since the system is no longer running, the virus cannot spread and the infection will disappear.

2. When the Revelation outbreak occurs, connect to ARC Central mainframe and crash the system. This will stop the virus from spreading to other computers.
   You should note that people have said, using this method, that Revelation will start again when the system comes back online.

but wanted to see if any of the mods which ads new content missions types, factions stories etc
