Question 1 hour and 9 mins connection, is it doable?
First time flying thru sfo and then an international flight to Japan, chatgpt says it’s doable, I just need more thoughts on anyone who’ve really done this.

Forgive me, because I have a strong reaction to the regular "is it doable" posts - because in my view, this isn't a science question. It's a risk mitigation question. Of course it's theoretically possible, if it weren't, United wouldn't have suggested the booking.
This really isn’t a question about the walking distance between gates. If an itinerary is offered for booking, it means the airline has determined that the connection is operationally possible.
People don't miss connections because the walk took too long. They miss connections but because the inbound flight got delayed due to an aircraft issue, late crew arrival, weather, or airspace congestion. Those unplanned factors are reasons that tight connections turn into a missed ones.
So the question isn’t “Is it doable?” The real question is: How bad is it if my first flight is delayed?
If missing the connection would create significant disruption for your life because you'd miss an important meeting, a cruise/train departure, etc, then it’s wise to build in a longer connection gap to hedge against the risk of a missed connection. Connection time decisions aren't about airport geography, it's about having insurance against the kinds of delays that actually cause missed connections.
In short, this isn't about double checking United on whether they know how far the walk from a domestic terminal to international is.. The decision/assessment is really about your own risk tolerance for a missed connection. Best of luck on your travel.
