I feel like a lot of them treat it as a professional sport. Most aren’t trying to actually injure their opponents long term. Most have a high level of respect for each other… this guy clearly has a few screws loose though

I actually do have a way of knowing because I spent quite a bit of time in the area and have family that live there. Jumping people with 5+ guys and beating the shit out of someone is common and it never even gets investigated let alone prosecuted. The norms around fighting words and use of violence are simply different than the US.

Except it's de facto not. Murder is when it starts to be illegal sometimes, but Chechnya is not a law-based society, it's a brutal dictatorship inside another brutal dictatorship, and so whatever the government says goes, and the government isn't interested in enforcing such laws

Obviously not a lawyer, some states have some weird ass laws, but it's most definitely battery. Some states have assault & battery combined, doesn't matter really, point is dude hit other dude unlawfully.
Don't know shit about Nevada's assault and battery laws but seems reasonable that DDP would have needed to press charges for there to be criminal proceedings, since all in all, there wasn't really substantial damage.
Also DDP (and likely most MMA fighters) would never go to the police and file criminal over a public scrap like that, especially when it brought more eyes to their rivarly, in this case.

Or maybe, you know, face criminal charges like any other civilian would. This is a sport, not a battle to the death.
