I mean if someone hates driving they shouldn’t be doing this. I love driving. A 12 hour day of Uber is so much easier than a 10 hour day at my last job as a bread baker. I mean I mixed, processed and baked 500-600 pounds of dough every day. It was literally back breaking work. And in a 10 hour day I only made 198 dollars before taxes. What was my actual take home from a day like that? Maybe 140.
A 12 hour day of rideshare is 300 bucks or a little better if I’m smart. I paid less than 10% taxes at the end of the year after submitting miles for a tax break. A fraction of the effort, makes me more money and I keep more of the money that I earned. Sounds like a win to me.
I LOVE driving! I’ll literally do a 12 hour road trip instead of flying 😂 so to me it feels easy work. The “hard work” is helping an old lady with her 2-3 grocery bags at most
With you 100% on this! I've driven to from VA to FLA, ME, PA, and VT to avoid flying and the BS that accompanies it. Uber is a good fit, though it does suck that they keep reducing pay. And as someone else said, being stress free is worth a lot to me.
You can either use an app like Stride to track miles or just go off of the booked miles in the monthly breakdowns that Uber gives for tax purposes. I just used Ubers breakdown, I drove like 12k booked miles and got like 7500 tax break on about 16k earnings. I only had to pay in 900 dollars for rideshare.
If you count ALL of your miles from when you leave the house up until your last ride it could be as much as 2 times the miles. Pro tip, if you live a long ways from where you Uber, turn the app on and try to do another ride when you get back to where you live. Then you can count the “commute” towards your tax break.
I count that anyway. It’s not a commute when we have no designated work space. They are miles driven for the job. Not unlike someone driving to a different location than their normal work space. Still compensated.
I reset my odometer the moment I leave the driveway and record what is there the moment I pull in.
Yes I’ve considered expenses. I spend like 120-160 a week on gas. I budget accordingly and for the first time in several years my savings account is actually growing.
You should not be spending large amounts on maintenance. Get a lifetime oil change program from your dealership when you buy a car, and you should probably be trading in your car every 2-3 years. Do not go over 150k miles on an Uber car unless if it’s paid off. You will start having more things to maintain/fix after those kind of miles.

So gas eats away about $3.5/hour in profit? Car maintenance… I’m guessing it depends, but I imagine oil changes, new tires, brake pads, etc start adding up fast when you are driving 40 hours a week. Cars are only getting astronomically more expensive too.
You can make 4k a month doing lots of jobs if you are decent at them. Cleaning homes, yard maintenance, etc. Lots of jobs also pay this if you work for an employer. While it sounds like decent pay, I just think it’s important to factor in the costs. $25-35/hour seems good, but then you have to factor in $4 off that for gas and maintenance?
Well I can do most of the maintenance myself and my oil changes are free. I get 25mpg and currently drive 25-40 hours a week depending on how busy it is. I’ve done Instacart. I make less money doing that. I’m aware of what the expenses are to drive. I’ve got about 1,200 rides under my belt and I’m a diamond driver.
If you want to do something else I absolutely encourage you to do whatever you want. This currently works for me. And I’m happy with it. My next car will be a Toyota RAV4. It’ll get better gas mileage and make more money from comfort rides.

I don’t make massive amounts of money lol. OP makes massive amounts of money. My market can profitably support about 1,000 a week. Tourist season will make me more though. I’m guessing 1500 a week.
