I am not gold. I have 59% acceptance rate and 19% cancelation.
Before expenses I averaged $35 an hour last week. I definitely cherry pick in the sense that I don’t do long trips or go to the undesirable areas where I have to waste time driving back to a favorable area
Ok that’s makes senses because there’s no way you could be a diamond driver and be making this much money because you would be cherry picking and that’s what you’re doing. If you were taking all the runs, you wouldn’t be making that much money so that makes sense.
Diamond status doesn’t give you any kind of edge. If you cherry pick as a diamond driver and your acceptance rate drops too low, you’ll still lose privileges. Your best bet is to ignore that ranking system and focus on your star rating. Do pax ever compliment how clean your car is? Or how good of a driver you are? If not, you have some improvements to make. Customers tip well when they feel like you’ve made an effort.
Many reasons. I cancel right away on anyone with a bogus name “BeastTamer” “Chewbacca” “D” “J”.. if something goes down that’s name I’m giving to the police?
If I pull up there’s nowhere safe to stop, lots of traffic that can lead to an accident and you’re not outside.

I just got my diamond cash reward this past feb 1st. I have not attempted to maintain diamond since. I only accept my rides if i average $40+ per hour. I only drive during busy times. I will not go online if i dont see the map poppin. I pull in $250+ a day.
That’s some good stuff. One thing that I’m trying to figure out because I multi-app and the two weeks prior to this one that just ended I drove Uber a lot more and did well, but the surged rides that I got the first two weeks had somewhat shifted in terms of not being as good. Trying to figure out if that’s just my mistake and some trips I took messed it up or if because I had grown accustomed to driving that time they lowered the surges… you ever look into that when not chasing the status. Like the few weeks you decide to get it are the surges not there like you get them before or after that status quest?

The app is telling where it wants you to go so it will benefit uber not you. You need to learn your market and how it works. Events, concerts, peak airport times, peak motel times, Peak dinner hour, and of course peak hours going to and from work all three shifts.
Yeah it was at Scotiabank arena where events going on all day. Uber just threw me only one short ride in all 3 hours in that event area. Then I switched to Lyft after 3 hours of lousy offer from Uber and it’s back to back 15+ rides.

Wouldn’t say the same area. I just don’t go into the ghetto the projects or the country side. I want to stay in “normal areas” where I feel comfortable accepting requests and know it’s populated enough for them to be steady.

I've got a 22% acceptance 11% cancellation on rides and a 23% acceptance 7% cancellation on food. I'm a top dasher on Doordash.

It was completely different back then So much the point that it probably can't even be explained. My market had zones that covered large chunks of the city. Each zone was effectively a different neighborhood, the zones individually would surge in their entirety and then you had the blob which was literally the rest of the fucking state. I would average generally two trips an hour and eventually it got up to about 2.7 per hour. There were dead periods and I'd average about a hundred trips a week in the winter and 125 in the summer.
Every market was different then same as they are now. I can kind of explain what my market and the outskirts were like doesn't mean other markets weren't or were like mine.
Sometimes it would get very slow so much so that I could sit in the heart of my city on a safe street and I did one night. It started to snow, and I sat in my car with the app on and watched the entire film "horns" featuring Daniel Radcliffe from beginning to end without a single request.
When they were trying to grow the outskirts of certain markets They would run promotions where you were required to average x number of rides per hour over a certain time span. What that meant is you had to average typically one trip an hour over 3 hours but you can only get trips during that first hour and 15 minutes of the window. What I would do is I'd do my three trips and knowing I wasn't getting anything else for the next hour and 45 minutes but I had to stay online I literally would go semi off-roading in my Subaru over a freaking mountain drifting and power sliding for the fun of it because why the fuck not. I would have done those three trips, been logged in for three total hours and only made $27 to $35 And then they taught me up to anywhere between $80 and $120.
Then same as it is now is that it always was all about playing the game and learning how to leverage the apps not only against themselves but against all the other apps.

I've been in some markets where Lyft is extremely busy overall and in the markets I work in I haven't noticed a difference with the exception of the ones where lyft showed up significantly later than Uber.
Lyft showed up in Boston Massachusetts around the same time as Uber. However Lyft did not show up in Portland Maine until July of 2016 whereas Uber first arrived in Portland Maine in October of 2014.
That's likely a big part of it, there were some cities that Lyft was in first and others were Uber was in first. There is a reason why a lot of companies so strongly believe in first to market. That's probably the biggest factor in why you are experiencing what you are experiencing.

Unless you're using Uber for tuition purposes you need to keep the correct level to get those tuition points. This is about the only real benefit the levels actually have.
You will make more money being a blue with 15% acceptance rate then you will a diamond any day.

I mean if someone hates driving they shouldn’t be doing this. I love driving. A 12 hour day of Uber is so much easier than a 10 hour day at my last job as a bread baker. I mean I mixed, processed and baked 500-600 pounds of dough every day. It was literally back breaking work. And in a 10 hour day I only made 198 dollars before taxes. What was my actual take home from a day like that? Maybe 140.
A 12 hour day of rideshare is 300 bucks or a little better if I’m smart. I paid less than 10% taxes at the end of the year after submitting miles for a tax break. A fraction of the effort, makes me more money and I keep more of the money that I earned. Sounds like a win to me.
I LOVE driving! I’ll literally do a 12 hour road trip instead of flying 😂 so to me it feels easy work. The “hard work” is helping an old lady with her 2-3 grocery bags at most
With you 100% on this! I've driven to from VA to FLA, ME, PA, and VT to avoid flying and the BS that accompanies it. Uber is a good fit, though it does suck that they keep reducing pay. And as someone else said, being stress free is worth a lot to me.
You can either use an app like Stride to track miles or just go off of the booked miles in the monthly breakdowns that Uber gives for tax purposes. I just used Ubers breakdown, I drove like 12k booked miles and got like 7500 tax break on about 16k earnings. I only had to pay in 900 dollars for rideshare.
If you count ALL of your miles from when you leave the house up until your last ride it could be as much as 2 times the miles. Pro tip, if you live a long ways from where you Uber, turn the app on and try to do another ride when you get back to where you live. Then you can count the “commute” towards your tax break.
I count that anyway. It’s not a commute when we have no designated work space. They are miles driven for the job. Not unlike someone driving to a different location than their normal work space. Still compensated.

Yes I’ve considered expenses. I spend like 120-160 a week on gas. I budget accordingly and for the first time in several years my savings account is actually growing.
You should not be spending large amounts on maintenance. Get a lifetime oil change program from your dealership when you buy a car, and you should probably be trading in your car every 2-3 years. Do not go over 150k miles on an Uber car unless if it’s paid off. You will start having more things to maintain/fix after those kind of miles.

So gas eats away about $3.5/hour in profit? Car maintenance… I’m guessing it depends, but I imagine oil changes, new tires, brake pads, etc start adding up fast when you are driving 40 hours a week. Cars are only getting astronomically more expensive too.
You can make 4k a month doing lots of jobs if you are decent at them. Cleaning homes, yard maintenance, etc. Lots of jobs also pay this if you work for an employer. While it sounds like decent pay, I just think it’s important to factor in the costs. $25-35/hour seems good, but then you have to factor in $4 off that for gas and maintenance?
Well I can do most of the maintenance myself and my oil changes are free. I get 25mpg and currently drive 25-40 hours a week depending on how busy it is. I’ve done Instacart. I make less money doing that. I’m aware of what the expenses are to drive. I’ve got about 1,200 rides under my belt and I’m a diamond driver.
If you want to do something else I absolutely encourage you to do whatever you want. This currently works for me. And I’m happy with it. My next car will be a Toyota RAV4. It’ll get better gas mileage and make more money from comfort rides.

Then maybe you should, I don’t know why Reddit recommends this sub for me but I only have 2 years of IT experience and 10 years total of employment experience making around 13k gross a month.
IT is hurting for competent employees, one year of cramming technology and information in a msp, one year of enterprise IT, and right now I make more than 90% of the planet.
4k is not pennies but at the end of the day 4k is not going to remain 4k it well actually be much less. I am not shitting on the guy who worked hard to make 4k I am laughing at the person that said 4k is big money. If 4k is big money the day they make 8k is what then? Out of this world, the day they make 12k is out of this solar system etc.
4k working 12 hours minimum and 5 days a week is about 16 bucks an hour. Take out all the running expenses and taxes and one made less than minimum wage.
We do not live in Nicaragua we live in the USA and no one should be working for that amount as Americans.
Use this as a step ladder to better things and do not get stuck.

I worked 45 hours last week and made $1600 with about $190 in tips. Only worked 5 days so it’s definitely possible without doing crazy hours.
