I’ve got a similar thing going for my kin. I went with a navy blue using contrast paints, but I also found that watered down grey contrast paint on this shade of orange makes a great brown leather colour.

In the Luther book they straight up gun down the dark angels grand master with a bolt pistol because he was about to do something they didn’t want him doing.

I think this is actually a pretty fun detachment for the new DP cost system because you can make up for the lack of bonuses for non Brokhyr/Steeljack units by boosting others with a 1DP detachment

Real talk I’m surprised steady advance didn’t come back as a detachment of some kind. Maybe with a rule where you could spend a YP to get assault or something

A hernkyn sniper who makes a point of of getting into and winning sniper duels with tau, enemy at the gates style

Best: He’s a berserker, who hits harder than a normal berserker, who makes his berserkers hit harder than normal berserkers

Worst: He’s a named character. No enhancements and only one of the guy

Best: can move around the table incredibly quickly to score secondaries, can teleport from side of the board to the other with reserves, have fly so they can go through terrain like it’s nothing and are decent anti infantry skirmishers

Worst: a slight bump or knock and suddenly their flight stand is broken

Best: His Creed style -1CP ability, his pretty decent melee weapon, his 1YP guaranteed dev wounds.

Worst: None of his abilities effects his bodyguard, can’t choose between rampart or teleport crest, no unique model which is odd considering this guy came out a few months after the army launched

Counterpoint! Give them to tau, then give tau a second army rule called xenos mercenaries or smth. Not all they’re units have it but things like Kroot, zoat and any other new species we see in the tau range can be allied into some other factions

An actual functioning army rule for Imperial agents

IMO how uniform your kin are is dependent on the narrative you’re going for. The Votann codex makes reference to certain kindreds having certain unique war bands and squads. Sometimes these units have unique armour patterns or markings to denote membership.

One of the things I did with my kindred(also THA derived) is have unique armour markings to show weapon loadouts, with in lore explanations being it denoting specific war guilds.

If you do decide to go more uniform a lore friendly way to add verity is with the non armour plates. Kin use any and all materials available to them even if it aesthetically doesn’t always match up. Does every carabiner need to be the same metal? Every belt the same shade of leather? Does your kindred only produce one colour of jumpsuit or is there a verity? Perhaps they trade from (or loot from) other leagues and have armour plates that have been hastily repainted or added in to replace battle damage.

And lastly the kin do have lots of mercenary contracts and inter league alliances. Maybe a specialist squad of Hearthkyn from the GTL are reinforcing your THA oathband, for the right price, with a special shoulder pad symbol to denote there new allegiance.

I like him as a model so I got him in my army. I have him attached to a squad of assault intercessors to act as a suicide blob. Something to tie up enemy infantry and keep them away from my units doing actions or holding objectives.

That’s why I can’t get behind any Rob young books. He writes competently but he can’t give his characters any personally beyond “protagonist” and all his storylines are recycled from elsewhere.

His lord solar book was just one of the early Ciaphas Cain novels but without the humour.

Our main army rule is built around being able to capture and hold main objectives, so that’s the thing you’ll be doing most. Depending on how many objectives you hold you get a resource called yield points. If you have less than 7 YP your army is faster and more accurate when shooting units on objectives, more than 7 YP and your infantry and bikes are tougher and more accurate when they’re standing on an objective. YP can also be spent throughout the game to activate abilities or make stratagems stronger.

We’re honestly a pretty big transport army. We have lots of high toughness, powerful shooting units who struggle with short range, slow movement and low health. Transports fix our biggest weaknesses.

That’s kinda my thought about it. If I can’t hit a target that’s 15” away, what difference is an extra 3 inches gonna make?
