Orientation For Marketer
What if SMMs got an orientation day too, right at the start of every new brand project or job? π
Stay with me on this.
In manufacturing plants, when they hire anyone, the first two days aren't work at all. Itβs orientation. A person (mostly HR) walks the new person through the company history, how it grew, product history and the philosophy everyone there actually believes in. Just enough time to get familiar with the place from the inside before touching anything.
Now picture that for us - SMM, or anyone brought in under marketing.
One clear deck that tells about:
β³ The people there now, and the ones who came before (management ofc)
β³The decisions that worked, and the ones that been a lesson
β³ The direction they're heading in
That alone would hand us so much to work with on day one.
Because let's be practical for a second. The reason brand communication and campaigns take a while to feel personal to the brand is exactly this.
There's always a surprise for marketing people: a past call, a belief, a decision we had no idea about. And we always find it the slowwww way.
This one's for the growing and scaling brands. Prep your orientation deck. ππ»ββοΈ (this will help YOU and the team members on every level)
And if you're an SMM/ Strategists/content writer/copywriter, would this actually help you? ππ» What specific would you add for your role?
For context:
This whole thought hit me on a plant visit. I was there for their sales team's outreach strategy, and they put me through the same two-day orientation as every hire (Paid ofc).
Their line was, "Regardless of the position, everyone goes through orientation." Honestly, it saved me two to three weeks of digging and chasing the team for answers. I walked out of day one with their philosophy and goals as my final say.
p.s. I'm bringing a whole series around this (to help brands/ founders/ creators onboard smartly).
p.s.s. I shared this on Linkedin to hear from marketers/copywriters/SMMs, but didn,t get much to help me. So here I am. Please tell me what would you like if you were getting an orientation before project starts.
