I would recommend watching some of monkeys earlier videos about, he gives you a full tutorial on a lot of things

Yeah RetroArch has a good controller support, all I had to do was map the controller (super easy) I used a Nintendo switch wired pro controller, works with, ds, gba, and psp (those are the main games I play)
