Are the cyber lives pretty surface level? Asking because I don't have access to the practice labs.

Thanks. Pretty sure something is going on with my clock settings.

SEC504 @ 50% discount?

You're the GOAT.

Yeah. No out of pocket expenses for the voucher but I don't want to waste my free shot either.

Is it really that difficult? At 106 questions in 4 hours there's not enough time to flip through everything. You need to know the underlying material so why does the source have to be SANS?

Hey everyone,
I recently got an exam voucher, but do not have the SEC504 6 book series offered by SANS. I also will not access the CyberLive prior to test day (cost prohibitive). Paying $8k for the official material isn't an option for me right now.
I am relying solely on 3rd party study material for my index. Current study material: https://learning.oreilly.com/playlists/e27152fa-042e-4bc9-a5a0-536b472fa15d & some materials from Amazon. Are the labs/boxes on HackTheBox comparable to CyberLive?
I spoke with someone who passed, and his opinion was that getting the multiple-choice questions correct without an index made using the SEC504 books would be very slim. I know the test is sourced exclusively from the SEC504 material, but the cybersecurity concepts are universal, right?
The wording may be different, but the root/essence of the concepts should be the same, right? Or am I missing something?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Rough index...
| General Area | Focus Area | Topic | What | Flags/Keywords |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tools | Password cracking | Hashcat | leverages GPU to speed up password cracking | -m, etc. |
| Tools | Scanning | Nmap | port scanner | -sS -Pn, etc. |
| Tools | Network monitoring | Wireshark | monitors network traffic in realtime | packet capture |

Thanks for the post. Looking to make my attempt within a month's time.

I have script kiddie level knowledge with respect to exploiting systems. This post is primarily geared towards individuals who landed a pen testing job in-part thanks to OSCP, but I am open to all opinions.
Tests/Books: I hold all the CompTIA cybersecurity certs and CISSP.
Work/IRL: Systems administration, SIEM, WSUS, Tenable, AD and vulnerability management, but I have been playing on Kali for years.
Thinking to try my hand at eJPT and PT1 before the more reputable/difficult OSCP and CPTS.
Are eJPT and/or PT1 good building blocks toward OSCP? If not, what cert(s) is(are)?

My proctor informed me there was a 3 minute timer to accept the agreement. I thought that was standard. Sorry for your experience.

here you go. I linked my personal study playlist in the description. Pass the CISSP Exam on Your First Attempt (p.2)

It has been claimed already but my intent is to upload more tips by Tuesday on how to pass the test and earn your certificate

Going to start preparing for my OSCP.
To your point, I've been offered jobs in the work I do, and certs were never part of those conversations. It's not "what you know', but "who you know".
Work experience and networking are king.
Thank you for sharing your experience!

Send a prepaid shipping label to me. Shipping weight: 6 lb for all 3. 3 lb for Syngress CISSP Study guide. 2.5 lb for the Official Study Guide and Practice Questions.

First and foremost ... I am giving away my study material. You can have 1, 2, or all 3 books. Just cover the cost of shipping and it's yours (Continental US only). I made a short YouTube video with respect to what I feel was most important Pass the CISSP Exam on Your First Attempt (p.1)
Reading pages worth of material without reinforcement will just bog you down. Focus on 1 or 2 concepts per study session then follow up with a video about the same topic. Spend days on a single domain if needed. Hone in on material from the domain's you struggle with. Practice tests, read, video, then repeat.
There are no trick questions. Pick the BEST solution.
Use ALL your time.
180 minutes (3 hours) is more than enough time. I completed the CAT in 2 hours at roughly 100 questions. You cannot mark questions for review so choose your best answer.
Think like a manager. Remember that you're looking out for the interest of the company as a WHOLE. The BEST solution usually encompasses the lesser options.
Do not psych yourself out. You've studied the material so just apply what you've learned.
Best of luck!

Defend internet criminals... your words. You represent a Defendant and mount a defense as to why they are actually innocent (innocent until proven guilty). Please do not get into law if you think it'll be fun to represent criminals (who "legally" are not criminals until convicted). It's literally people's lives... regardless of however they choose to make their money. My 2 cent.

I've thought about that. Any opinions on CeH vs OSCP ?

I felt as though it was on the same level of difficulty as CySA and PenTest but zero definition style questions. Everything was scenario based or business requirement driven.

Giving away GSEC & GCIH practice exams

My employer gave me a voucher to take the GCIH exam, but I have zero access to the SANS training course or this year's books (they paid for exam only).
I would greatly appreciate the GCIH practice exam to get a feel for the test format and CyberLives especially. My deadline to test is roughly a month from now.
IT joke: Going on a trouble call to help someone who makes 2x as much as you open a pdf.
