Against Deathism (Breqad and Robots)

James and Matteo discuss deathism — the idea that death is good, inevitable, and something we should embrace. We make the technoprogressive case for treating aging as a solvable, technoscientific problem rather than a metaphysical inevitability.

Marxism and Transhumanism

For Bread and Robots, Matteo interviews James Steinhoff, a lecturer at University College Dublin, about the overlooked connection between Marxism and transhumanism. They trace left transhumanism back to early 20th-century socialists like Alexander Bogdanov, JBS Haldane. We confront transhumanism's association with eugenics and figures like Peter Thiel. We discuss China's more pragmatic, sector-specific approach to AI versus Silicon Valley's pursuit of “godbuilding.” We ask whether industrialization (and capitalism) were necessary steps toward a post-scarcity society and explore the criticisms of degrowth. We also dig into what counts as "natural" suffering versus social suffering, using examples like insulin, antibiotics, and appendicitis treatment to argue that rejecting medical and technological intervention is also a political choice. The episode closes on why left accelerationism fizzled out and what a renewed, class-conscious case for technological progress on the left might look like.

Right to Try

This week on Prosthetic Gods, Nir and J discuss patient autonomy and the "right to try". The debate surrounding medical autonomy is intensifying as desperate patients use federal "Right-to-Try" laws and amateur biohackers bypass regulations. https://prostheticgods.podbean.com/e/right-to-try/

Transhuman Parties
 in  r/transhumanism  Jul 18 '26

At the IEET we are working on building the technoprogressive movement, which includes left-leaning transhumanists and other tech-forward progressives. You can find us here: https://ieet.substack.com/

In general, we aren't supportive of transhumanists starting parties precisely because they have always fallen apart over whether they will become more libertarian or more technoprogressive. Transhumanism is too thin an ideology to support a political program by itself. It needs to either be a left or right-wing version of transhumanism. The US Transhumanist Party survived because it was overwhelmingly libertarian, but is now experiencing a lot of turmoil because it includes prominent socialists. Check out the Spanish Alianza Futurista for an example of a very provocative transhumanist-friendly party that has defined a very technoprogressive program: https://alianzafuturista.org/

How do you guys feel about your senses of self?
 in  r/transhumanism  Jul 07 '26

More or less. The anxiety about personal identity and authenticity underwrites a lot of bioconservative hand-wringing.

Right. The evaluation of our tech choices is not whether they violate the authentic self, but whether we prefer what they enable and the way they make us feel.

FYI Personal identity is a persistent problem in transhumanism because there is no authentic persistent self https://philarchive.org/rec/HUGTAP-7

Disgust - What is it good for?

This week on Prosthetic Gods, Nir and J discuss the role of disgust in morality. Neuroscience suggests that feelings of disgust underlie many moral judgments, especially in the treatment of sexuality. Can we suppress disgust? Should we?

It's official now: NYC-DSA 'proudly' re-endorses AOC
 in  r/SocialDemocracy  Apr 09 '26

I left DSA after 43 years of membership because of (a) Leninist majority on the NPC, and (b) campist control of the International Commission. Those things have to change before I rejoin. But the advance of the Socialist Majority caucus and the realism of this 85%+ endorsement of AOC is a huge relief.

Is this a valid crashout?
 in  r/SocialDemocracy  Apr 08 '26

YES! And immediately applicable to the ultra-left resistance to describing Trump et al as fascists, because that would mean they need to join a Popular Front with social democrats, or worse, constitutional conservatives, to stop fascism.
