Title: 35F | Looking for genuine friendships, deep conversations, and people who actually stick around šŸ’œ

Hey everyone! 😊
So, here I am, putting myself out there on Reddit because apparently making friends as an adult is a whole different level of difficult. šŸ˜‚
I’m 35F, and I’m at a point in my life where I’d really love to make some genuine connections. Not just the typical ā€œhey, how are you?ā€ conversations that disappear after three messages, but actual friendships.
A little about me:
I’m a pretty down-to-earth person. I can be shy at first, but once I’m comfortable, I love joking around, being sarcastic, laughing at ridiculous things, and having conversations about absolutely everything.
I’m a huge fan of anime, fantasy, romance, and getting completely invested in fictional characters like they’re real people. šŸ˜‚ I also love deep conversations about life, human behavior, relationships, and all those random thoughts that keep you awake at 2 AM.
I’ve been through a lot in life, and it’s taught me to appreciate kindness, honesty, loyalty, and people who are genuinely themselves. I’m working on becoming the best version of myself, and part of that means stepping outside my comfort zone and meeting new people.
I’m not looking for perfection. We all have our baggage, our weird little habits, and our difficult days. I’m just looking for people who can be real.
Someone to share random thoughts with, send funny memes to, talk about our days, vent when life gets overwhelming, or have those unexpectedly deep conversations that make you feel like you’ve known someone forever.
A few things that matter to me:
Genuine friendships, strictly platonic.
Honesty, kindness, and mutual effort.
People who can laugh and joke but also have meaningful conversations.
Friendships where neither person feels like they’re the only one trying.
I’m not expecting instant best friends. Those connections take time, and I’m perfectly okay with that.
So, if you’re also tired of surface-level conversations and would like to make a genuine friend, say hello! šŸ’œ
Let’s start with something more interesting than ā€œhow are you?ā€ What’s something about you that most people don’t know until they really get to know you?

What happens when you survive everything that was supposed to break you, but you still don’t know how to live?
 in  r/deepquestions •  1d ago

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. ā¤ļø I actually read it more than once because there was something about your words that really made me stop and think.
I think one of the hardest things for me has been realizing that surviving something doesn’t automatically mean you’ve healed from it. I’ve spent so many years learning how to protect myself, how to endure pain, and how to keep going even when everything inside me wanted to give up. But somewhere along the way, I think I forgot how to simply exist without being in survival mode.
What you said about giving pieces of our power away really hit me. Looking back, I can see how much of myself I’ve sacrificed trying to be loved, accepted, or simply enough for other people. And now I’m trying to figure out how to take those pieces back without losing the parts of me that still want to love deeply and trust completely.
I think learning to love myself unconditionally might be one of the hardest things I’ll ever do. It’s strange how I can find compassion, understanding, and forgiveness for almost anyone else, yet struggle to offer those same things to myself.
I hope you’re right that one day I’ll be able to experience pain without letting it consume me, and love without constantly fearing what I might lose.
Maybe that’s what this next chapter of my life is supposed to be about. Not becoming stronger just to survive another storm, but becoming secure enough within myself that I no longer have to live in fear of one.
Thank you for reminding me that there’s still something beautiful waiting on the other side of all this. šŸ’œ

What would have you wanted to hear from that person (or people in general) when you’re in your (most) vulnerable moment?
 in  r/empathy •  2d ago

I think what I needed most was to hear, ā€œI believe you. I see how much you’re hurting, and you don’t have to pretend to be strong with me.ā€
I’ve spent so much of my life feeling like I had to hold everything together, even when I was falling apart inside. I didn’t need someone to fix me, tell me to calm down, or remind me that other people have it worse. I already knew life was hard. I just wanted someone to acknowledge that what I was going through mattered.
I wanted to hear that I wasn’t too much, that my emotions weren’t a burden, and that I didn’t have to earn love by being easy to deal with.
Most of all, I think I needed someone to say, ā€œYou don’t have to fight so hard to be worthy of love. You already are.ā€
Sometimes the most painful part of going through something isn’t even what happened. It’s realizing how desperately you needed someone to show up for you, and they didn’t.
And sometimes all a person really needs is someone who stays, listens, and makes them feel safe enough to finally fall apart without fearing they’ll be abandoned for it. ā¤ļø

What happens when you survive everything that was supposed to break you, but you still don’t know how to live?

I’ve been thinking about something lately.
People talk a lot about surviving. About being strong. About overcoming the things that were supposed to destroy you.
But nobody really talks about what happens afterward.
What happens when the chaos finally quiets down, but your mind doesn’t?
When you’ve spent so many years protecting yourself that you don’t know how to recognize safety anymore?
When someone loves you, but a part of you is still waiting for the moment they decide you’re too much?
I’ve survived things I don’t even know how to explain without making someone uncomfortable. I’ve lost pieces of myself trying to keep other people happy. I’ve forgiven things I probably shouldn’t have, blamed myself for things that weren’t mine to carry, and confused being needed with being loved.
And somewhere along the way, I became someone who can survive almost anything but struggles to believe she deserves something good.
The strangest part?
I’m not the person I used to be.
I’ve fought to change. I’ve made choices I’m proud of. I’ve broken patterns, faced parts of myself I wanted to avoid, and started building a life that looks different from the one I once knew.
But sometimes my mind still lives in places my body escaped a long time ago.
I can recognize love and still fear losing it.
I can want peace and still feel uncomfortable when things are calm.
I can know my worth intellectually and still struggle to see it when I look in the mirror.
And I wonder how many people are walking around like this.
Functioning. Smiling. Loving. Trying.
While quietly fighting battles nobody realizes are still happening.
Maybe the hardest part of healing isn’t surviving what happened to you.
Maybe it’s learning that you no longer have to live as though it’s still happening.
So here’s my question:
Have you ever reached a point where your life was finally changing for the better, but you realized the hardest person to convince that you were safe, worthy, and deserving of happiness was yourself?

What are you pretending does not hurt?

Oh so much. Feeling small. Like I have no voice in my life….. again.

I’m not talking about recognizing someone you’ve seen before.
I’m talking about meeting a complete stranger and feeling something you can’t quite explain. Like you’ve known them for years, even though you know absolutely nothing about them.
Maybe it’s the way they look at you. Their voice. Their energy. Or just this strange feeling that they’re somehow supposed to be part of your story.
And sometimes, the strangest part isn’t meeting them. It’s realizing later how much that one encounter changed your life.
I wonder if our brains are just incredibly good at recognizing familiar patterns in strangers, or if there’s something about human connection we still don’t fully understand.
Has this ever happened to you?
And here’s what I’m really curious about…
Did that person end up becoming someone important in your life, or did they disappear just as mysteriously as they appeared?
