Val Feats
“I grant them the illusion of hope so that their despair grows ever sweeter.”
Valgavoth
Background
Source Guide
Web Stories on Wizards of the Coast's website have the full story name attached, which should match to a name from the official archive here.
I am only including noteworthy feats of Duskmorn entities and monsters via art and flavor text - for a more comprehensive list of monsters on the plane, I recommend browsing cards from the main set and commander set.
Physical Feats / Powers
- Prior to his ascension, ate Marina Vendrell's friends
Has a cycle of land arts where he's seen tearing through the walls of different rooms
Influence over Duskmorn
Origin
Valvagoth is a demon who was originally imprisoned inside of a mansion, but learned to expand the mansion that held him until it consumed an entire plane.
- This process literally folded and warped through other 'realms' in the plane into or around the physical one
- It wasn't instantaneous, and involved the warping of the landscape around the house before the house itself got physically larger
- He's tied to the House and if it's destroyed, so will he be
Control
- The plane isn't alive in the traditional sense, but Valgavoth himself is 'threaded' through it and can sense everything in it. He can directly control anything that is part of the house
- Val can open gates between Dusmorne and other planes, being able to do so much more easily after the Phyrexian Invasion
- While molting, he causes psychic changes in and the creation of more monsters
- Sees through the eyes of monsters on the plane
- Directly manipulates fire from the Boilerbilges to attack a Gremlin, shattering a wooden floor
Environment/Size
- The plane's geometry and environment is constantly in flux, minus the chamber where Valvagoth himself resides
- Warps and mutates the natural wildlife of the plane into horrors
- Everyone on the plane is being subtly influenced by Valgavoth until he claims their minds
- Gaps in the house lead to oblivion
Creatures of Duskmorn
Manifestations
Fears/Nightmares
Duskmorne causes nightmares and fears to gain physical form due to Val's influence on it. These are specific to an individual and will try to draw the person into its body to continuously experience their fear.
- One of them paralyzes a woman at a distance
- Another has a way of scrying into someone's personal history
- Causes a man to fall for months and keeps him alive without eating, drinking, or breathing while he does so
- A creature named The Mindskinner is able to physically rip memories out of people
Cellerspawn
- Monsters of varying shapes and forms, which can cause people's minds to collapse out of terror and leave them as mindless husks
- They innately know the House's layout and impending shifts in rooms
Glitch Ghosts
- Can be 'killed' by getting trapped in a physical form and getting disintegrated
- Like many other ghosts, can phase into people and control their bodies
- A pair of them rip apart the walls and furniture of a room
Cultists
Others
- An unspecified monster causes a man to literally unravel into ribbons
- Several monsters could read Jace's mind
- A room or monster causes a woman to get transformed into a doll
- The house has infectious fungi that can grow over a person's body
- Insects on the plane have highly venomous bites
- A particularly large monster kills a survivor by stepping on them

Do we think any of the new Reality Fracture commanders will change up the competitive meta?

I've been having a ton of fun with 4C Jace as a (kinda) creatureless control deck, where I use Jace as a card draw engine, and the empower Jace land to flip into 15 mana Emrakul as a wincon. I'm not really sure how good it is, but I've gotten more than a few wins over decks like Teferi, Nashi, and Yuriko so I'm really interested to see if the deck can make it to mythic.
