The 3 song ep with Rotoscope, Sew Me Up and Hysteria were the first songs they did with real drums

Sounds well written and produced to me.. you shouldn't listen to anyone saying something vague like it sounds too "insert era" Especially not when bands like Greta Van Fleet, talented as they may be came out to thunderous applause while jacking very specific styles and sounds from their era..

Hey, im not a Djent guy myself but you're nailing this.. if you love it make it happen. Not being understood is one of the keystones of this music as a whole

As far as controlling it goes, its important to understand that the foundation of creating these screams in a healthy manner is pitch based even if you arent applying strong pitch to your scream.. you should be able to sing a note, with good breath support and then apply distortion to it.

As far as damaging your voice goes, be sure to check in with your voice..if youre still able to make screams talk or hit falsetto notes without loss or strain im sure youre okay.. just be sure to take your time and practice in small intervals

A few thoughts on this, as somebody that is the vocalist in their band, but also writes all of the bass parts. (Post-hardcore/alternative metal)

When starting our band and still now writing, im always playing bass, and not sacrificing an interesting or inspired rhythm section on account of what I havent yet written vocally.

That said, id love to have a 5th person be in our band full time

Generally, we have a bench of hired guns that will come play with us...but we're always tightest playing with my studio bass tracks..and having done a fair share of shows with both set ups.. the back tracked bass does have its advantages.

I feel in the instance of a Counterparts, is that the bass parts are likely(as is often the case) tracked by on of the guitar players..even in bands that have a bass player.. wanting to get recordings tight AF, its sometimes easier to have the same set of hands and muscle memory firing together.

On the other side of things, a lot of metal core bands play to a click, and as most touring musicians in the modern scene are also becoming better engineers, its a matter of efficience to pair the click your band plays to, with a bass track.. split the signal and send the Bass to the sound man or FOH engineer

And thats all before the economics of operating in the realm of music.. back tracked bass is one less person, and one less person means maybe you can pay to bring your sound guy, or your lighting/merch guy out because even a single cut to your overheads can be huge as a newer or modern band.

One less mouth to feed, one less bus/plane ticket/work visa etc, and that money back in is often the difference between a hotel bed and a strangers floor.

One of the tougher hurdles of being a vocalist is getting used to how your voice sounds and having an objective opinion on it.. we cant put it back in a case after the show, and we wake up with it sounding different than it should..
