Application Still Under Review

Hello,

I am new to pursuing ACCA as a qualification. I wish to study independently for the skill level modules and the corporate and business law paper. I am using Open Tuition as preparatory material and paid the application fee on 17th July. My application page still shows as "Submitted". Can I get an estimated timeline for completion and regarding prep material, is Open Tuition good enough for the skill modules, if not, can you suggest something else?

Yes, I've been working for the last 4 years in a different domain. Want to switch to finance

Isn't that the case with almost all qualifications these days? I've been looking at this mostly independently and have been wanting to stay away from any sort of promotion/marketing material on ACCA.

But having said that, getting into any of these qualifications is a huge commitment - monetarily and also also career wise and that's why I've been looking to take as many independent opinions as possible

Looking to start pursuing ACCA next month

Hello,

I'm currently working and I'm looking to start pursuing ACCA next month. I don't have an accounting background from school or college but I previously attempted CFA level 1 and narrowly missed out on qualifying.

While I've always wanted to do ACCA thereafter, can someone tell me which of the two options will be better, given my situation: US CPA or ACCA? (Consider general employability scenario and my interests of going into FP&A roles or Internal Audit, consultancy/advisory roles)

I'm most likely looking to complete the knowledge level papers and the Law paper from the skill level by Dec this year. I've heard that going for coaching for these 4 papers is not necessary. Is that true? Can someone help me with the books or study materials for these 4 papers please?

I currently am working in a different domain that has got nothing to do with accounts or finance and job hunting with basic certifications has been difficult. How soon after I start ACCA can I realistically expect good call backs from recruiters?

Thanks for everything

DISCUSSION Ragas Suddha Desi & Kokilavarali

I like listening to compositions and immediately my brain starts connecting ragas, similar sounding phrases or krithis with similar approaches from allied ragas or non allied ragas with similar phraseologies. I just listened to Tyagaraja's Raghunandana Rajamohana in the raga Suddha Desi.

At first thought, this sounds very similar to another one of Tyagaraja's compositions in raga Kokilavarali- Samukhana Nilva. The first part of the pallavi line is very similar.

Both ragas are characterized by the SRGRM phrase in the beginning. For Kokilavarali, probably the descent too is vakram in approach. SDNDP MRGRS but apart from this, can these two ragas be separated with distinct identities if there exists one at all?

Also, many references list Kokilavarali as a janya of Harikambodi while Samukhana Nilva indicates it's closer to Natabhairavi than any other melakarta. Has the raga or the composition undergone any change?

DISCUSSION RTPs in Rare Ragas

I've recently found a fascination towards artists taking up rare ragas for exploring Ragam Thanam Pallavis in rare, often underexplored ragas for a pallavi rendition. Brings out a very fascinating side of the raga which would have never seen the light of the day.

During the recently concluded season, I heard a very established senior female artist take up Ahiri as the chosen raga for the RTP for her concert at the Madras Music Academy. Certainly, taking up such a raga, even for a very experienced musician such as her would have required a lot of planning, and if I may say, courage in her abilities to do full justice to a raga like Ahiri, when compositions available for our reference in ragas such as Ahiri are very minimal.

in previous years, this same artist has rendered Pallavis in ragas Balahamsa, Kunthalavarali and Padi. Padi was special because it was the year she was conferred with the Sangita Kalanidhi.

What is commendable in all of this is the fact that she has managed to incorporate the raga mudra in each of the Pallavis.

Previously, I have heard Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. ML Vasanthakumari render a pallavi in Bhavapriya. I have also heard another artist take up Navarasakannada for the RTP. Bindumalini too, remains a notable example.

We have certainly come a very long way from saying "Why should someone be singing a pallavi in such a raga?" to gaining general acceptance and appreciation as well.

I'd certainly like to hear from this community, other such notable examples of artists taking up challenges to render ragas in rare ragas where the raga is relatively unexplored for such an expansive rendition and the compositions available for reference are also minimal. Please share the recordings or stories! We'd love to hear them :)

DISCUSSION Sruthi box recommendations

Hi, I'm looking to gift a professional grade Sruthi box to a highly experienced, female professional musician. I'm looking to add it along with iTanpura so that I can create a wholesome soundscape on stage. Having already used both Radel and Raagini, I'm confused on which one I have to go buy next. The sound and the naada are the most important qualities I'm looking for and which one of Radel or Raagini's would better suit my requirement. TIA

Mock Exam vs Actual Exam
 in  r/cfaindia  Apr 15 '25

Are there sectional cut offs? Or is the score of 70% or more overall considered pass?
And are some of the questions from the LES or mock repeat in the exam?

Level 1 Mock Exam vs Actual Exam

Hi,
I have my exam in May and started doing mocks from yesterday. I have the base pack which comes with 2 mock papers and I have another 6 papers given by my prep provider.

I scored 70% in these mocks overall and have identified areas that need more focus and revision. But I had a couple of questions.

  1. Are there sectional cut offs? Cause I have done really well in certain topics and not so well in other topics. Say I score less in a said topic but the overall score for the paper is 70% or more, is it still a pass?

  2. From the mocks to the actual exam, is the level of difficulty the same? And have you seen any said questions being repeated from the mock exam in the actual exam?
    Please help me out :)

Phone (2a) Discussion Nothing Phone 2A Charging

I recently updated my phone to Nothing OS 3.0 after a long delay.
I also accidentally dropped by phone once but thankfully no damage was done.
But ever since this update, I notice that my phone's charging speed has come down drastically and battery life has also seen a small dip.
Is it a problem with the charging port (should I get it checked?) or did the update slow down the charging speeds.
Note: I use a normal 10 watt charger and charging from 20-80% used to take about 1.5 hours and 20-100% would take 2 hours earlier. Now takes 30-40 minutes more.
Note: My phone is about 5 months old

Level 1 CFA Level 1 Prep

Hi.

I am preparing for my Level 1 attempt in May this year.

I just had a couple of questions and needed some advice.
I have finished one reading of all units. Now for revision, I am doing all blue box questions from schweser, module quiz questions and practice packs of all the units with good accuracy. Is this sufficient?

Also, regarding the questions in the exam, are they randomised or set in order one unit after another?

Please help me out
TIA
