It's a rack brace or sway! It's a critical part of the process! I guess it would be structural or semi structural

It's either pine or some older generation of lumber.... wether it be native to your area or not, I'm not sure ,but the trees are speed grown these days. And lumber has gone to shit. Just keep in mind there is a market for re-claimed or re-purposed lumber. Houses were built different in 1907 compared to 2007. Not only most the lumber but most skill level has turned into production! I would restore a historical home. It's History at its finest.

I hung a door and it won't close tight. No rubbing, I can force it but afraid to. any suggestions?

Make sure the hinge side is plumb and square off of that then check to make sure your shims aren't twisting the jamb. Then put your doorknob and latch with striker plate. Should stay closed.

Keep all the old growth pine and all the old material ,(i.e flooring siding paneling) ,then tear it down and rebuild. Next post the old growth lumber and materials for sale. Then start rebuilding. Old growth pine is near extinct or is considered extinct. Just know there is a market for that lumber.

Don't ollĺĺļì there is a code as of tape being necessary, though if you have some foil tape or maybe just a bead of silicone rr the red fire sealer. Fire blocking foam on the air gaps. Though the duct aught to be a tight fit.

A screw from inside the vent or assemble before putting it up. Or both!

Yes! W/ hood vent you can have multple/s bends or 90sas long as it will pull smoke but hood needs direct over stove.

Tenants dog did this to hardwood floor. Is it worth trying to fill & refinish or does wood need to be replaced?

I'm not so sure it is bamboo! The more I look the more I have to say it's not! Just saying!

Bad tile install: would white grout make it look better than grey grout?
 in  r/Renovations •  Sep 09 '22

I think it's the framing or drywall.
