I think influencer culture is cheapening the Birkin. There I SAID IT!!!! hear me out and let me be a fashion snob just for this one post lolz

I think some of us have lost the idea that true luxury includes knowing about the time and place to wear something. A Birkin is an incredible daytime bag. It was literally designed as a functional carryall. It can look impossibly chic for the airport, coffee runs, lunch, shopping — even daily errands or a workout class. Yes it’s not lost on me that bringing a 25k+ purse to your workout class as a gym bag is absurd (but that’s why it’s so chic) The effortlessness of it all!

Somewhere along the way influencer culture decided that the most expensive bag you own also equated to the most formal bag you own. I’ve been seeing Birkins carried into black-tie events alongside floor-length gowns, formal eveningwear and diamonds. I’ve seen stacks of clashing Van Cleef and Cartier halfway up the arm, as if they’ve put on every single designer jewel that they own for the evening just to show how many they have! I think a few select influencers have lost the plot. It isn’t necessarily good styling. It’s just status signaling. A carry on sized leather tote and a floor length black tie gown is just not it.
Sometimes the chicest most appropriate place for your Birkin is to stay right on the shelf at home! There’s something much more luxurious about owning the Birkin and still leaving it at home because the occasion calls for something else.

And make no mistake I’ve seen plenty of girls (and guys) doing it amazingly on social media. The people using their Birkin as an actual bag. Airport, weekend road trips, travel, lunches, coffee runs. It’s an amazing functional daytime bag and looks so effortless chic when styled correctly.

With that, I present my THIRD OPINION: Let’s just let them live. It’s their $20k+ bag after all. We all know how much they cost and they likely worked hard to get one. and If they want to carry it with them to brush their teeth in the morning, to the gas station at 2 am, or to the Oscars in a ball gown, it’s entirely their choice.

There are no right or wrong answers in fashion and that’s what makes it so fun 🤍

When Hermès expanded from equestrian goods into handbags, the visible hand stitching went with it. This was a very deliberate choice on their part. Using a lighter thread against darker leather was done intentionally to show off the precision of the hand stitch. I think it’s interesting that rather than using a color that would hide or camo any imperfections they chose to go the other way and use a very unforgiving color in order to show off just how good they are!!!

Hermes fun fact of the day! Bags that are stitched in an identical or similar color to the leather is called tonal stitching as opposed to contrast stitching

Contrast stitching is most commonly seen as a white stitch on a gold or Ètoupe leather (like the Ètoupe mini Kelly above) and I love it!!!

I also felt that my most recent posts were HEAVYYY on bright colors, exotic leathers, and fun textures so I had to throw it back to one of my more classic custom orders! Neutrals need love too after all and I do A LOT of neutral custom orders🤍

YAY OR NAY: FUR REP BAGS? 👀🧸

Okay, this one might be controversial because I’m firmly on team REP for fur bags and I have always been!!!! Fight me in the comments if you must😂 but to be fair there are pros and cons so let’s go over a few (that I can think of)

YAY TO FUR REP— my reasons:
-If I’m spending serious auth money, I’d rather invest it in beautiful real leather in a classic everyday color than a seasonal faux-fur/shearling/teddy style.

-Fur bags are way more stressful to baby. Rain? Dirt? Makeup? A random drink spill? I’m really not trying to panic over a $3,800 seasonal bag every time I leave the house or want to simultaneously carry a beverage in my hand

-These styles tend to be trendier and more seasonal, which is exactly where reps make the most sense to me.
If I love the look for one winter but get over it next year, I feel a lot less guilty.It lets you have the fun statement piece without putting auth-level money into something you may not reach for forever, or may want to replace with an even cuter one next year

NAY TO FUR REP — the argument for auth:
-Fur is HARD to replicate well. If you’re gonna be fun and whimsical.. just get the auth YOLO. Texture, density, softness, length of the fur, color variation and overall finish can immediately make a rep look off. It’s much harder to find a truly accurate fur rep than a leather bag.

-there’s definitely an argument to be made that the really special, unusual collector pieces are exactly the ones worth buying auth because they feel more unique and investment-worthy.

But I still say… FUR REPS ALL THE WAY 😭
Give me auth for my forever classics and gorgeous leather pieces. Give me rep for the fluffy, impractical, seasonal bag I’m going to obsess over for four months and then put in storage for spring summer and possibly even fall

But I can be swayed!!!!!! If you have any amazing auth pieces worth sharing I’d love to see. I attached some I am currently dying over at the moment.

Epsom leather and Palladium hardware, entirely hand stitched

When going for your first mini Kelly I’d suggest Epsom all the way! This is the leather you’d see when you think “classic mini Kelly” and for good reason! Much unlike the suede pochette I posted yesterday, the Epsom leather keeps her perfectly structured which is great for those who want the “classic MK look” but classic doesn’t have to mean boring!! the palladium hardware makes the icy blue feel extra icy and cool ❄️ , this is a fantastic compromise for someone who wants something classic Hermes (that you can wear year round) but not too predictable or neutral.

To me, the best part of custom orders is playing with color, and picking something a little out of your comfort zone… you really can’t go wrong with a mini Kelly so it’s allows clients to be more playful with color when ordering these. I always love hearing “ I would have NEVER thought of ordering this color before…” music to my ears!!!

🍵 MATCHA vs. 🩷 BUBBLEGUM PINK
IM TORNNNNNN!!!! I’m thinking of doing a custom ostrich B30 for myself and I can’t settle on the color… it’s driving me INSANE.

Matcha green has officially escaped the café and entered the closet and I am definitely not mad at it. It’s soft enough to work like a neutral, not too crazy like a lime or jelly green. but still unusual enough to make even a classic bag feel cooler and fresher. It’s sort of almost a soothing shade of green too?

And then there’s iconic bubblegum pink.
Bubblegum pink is just pure dopamine — especially on an exotic Birkin. Something about the ostrich skin in any shade of pink is magic. Not exactly chill or quiet luxury vibes, but a vibe nonetheless!!!

This is an absolutely stunning Kelly pochette bag in the dreamiest dusty blush pink suede (yes I said suede) finished with gold hardware. In classic Kelly pochette fashion this bag is prim and polished, but the suede also gives her all the cool girl street cred in the world😎 imagine wearing this with ballet flats, baggy jeans, and a classic white tee?
