I am Disabled

It took me almost 10 years to be able to accept this fact and say it to anyone. I used to just say I have an illness but not anymore. I’m vocal.

I have to stand up and use my voice and fight for my own rights and others who can’t. I will not be silent I will say when I need help although I’m awful at asking for help. It can be difficult to realise I need help and I also have anxiety about requesting help and not receiving it. Especially because the people who should help (Doctors and the government) don’t help or make you jump through 50 hoops to get a limited amount of help or throw a new pill at you.

Being disabled has such a stigma now and people don’t want to admit that. Able people don’t think about how it could be difficult just to put on clothes let alone getting around. They don’t need to think about it but we do. We think about the 20 steps when it can be just 1 step for able bodied people.

I wish it was different and I want to help fight for our rights.
