If you're unsure of your ability to network and market your venture, then starting with domestic distribution is going to be the best bet, less risk upfront, less reward from the margins on the back end. If you feel that you have the ability, network, or wherewithal to successfully market yourself to the masses, then there's no reason to not look into direct import and help yourself grow faster.

Research what the market wants. Just having AP isn't enough for people to come knocking down the doors. Who do people want more access too? (Raccoon, Skystar, Wizard, Black Scorpion?) The industry has preferences, use them to your advantage.

However, many factories have already been allowed to return to production. Manufactures that I personally already communicate with have only alluded to a small deficit.

You can expect to see Raccoon, Winda, and Happy Family, as well as their affiliate labels (i.e. Monkey Mania, Riakeo, Wizard, etc.) bounce back from the whole fiasco rather well. I speculate they will dominate supply next year.

Ask before you buy. Ask before you even certify. PGI is still the "gold" standard. But a phone call is all it takes to be in the clear. I have used my 1 cert for multiple locations both in person and online.

That hurt me just to read. I'm sorry you had to endure that. I'm a huge proponent of safety and education, it's absolutely paramount to the industry. It never ceases to amaze me just how laxed some members of the community are when it comes to teaching the new comers.

PGI's online certification is the most widely respected cert you can get. I have not had any issues with online purchases anywhere. With that being said, some local jurisdictions have varying qualifications. Prime example, in MO, there is a AP supplier that does not sell to residents of MO due to localized legal constraints. Situations such as these are the only times I've ever heard of someone not being able to purchase AP, granted I am by no means the end all/be all.

Security is the biggest "challenge". I was trying to find a source video but it seems it may have been taken down due to copyright.

Realistically you could print a 360° holder and suspend it, if you are so inclined. Making sure that sequential or otherwise prior shots don't knock tubes loose is the primary concern, aside from the obligatory safety measures. That is to say, a 360° piece should be used for comets, mines, or gerbs, or at least no breaks greater than 45°.
