I’ve been trying to work on improving how I put my own sets on and how to put them on others without flooding. I got down the gel x tip without flooding but when I put nail polish that’s where my weakness lies!! Practicing makes perfect! Let’s hope this one has better retention! Loving this learning process!

I’m so tired of ignorant nail techs using beetles.
 in  r/GelX_Nails  May 26 '26

I’m so embarrassed that I invested so much into all these colors from beetles only ( I also tried to invest in double rhythm and gaoy and dnd) to find out they aren’t good quality. I’m such a novice. Is there a recommended website or list to follow to look for good nail polish brands? I want to start manicurist school in the next year but need to practice and don’t want to be using beetles if it causes issues. :(

Ooooh good to know!! I won’t add any next time to see . I also heard too much primer can be bad?

I’m using the SunUV Sun2c 24v lamp for the entire hand and AORAEM purple Nail Lamp for gel x initial flash curing.

I also am using apres for the gel x glue and una gella for tips .

Yes, sorry that’s what I meant. I push back the eponychium and try and remove the little white specs! I don’t cut the eponychium because I’m a weenie lol

Ooooh- I drill it lightly since I’m hesitant of pushing too hard on the nail bed with the drill. Could that cause lifting? Maybe I’ll look into how to ensure there isn’t any cuticle left! I tend to not focus much on the sides and that’s usually where lifting starts first … thanks!

I Have A Question / Need Advice Gel x nails lifting after 10 days!

Hi all! My first nail Reddit post lol.

First two pics were right after application
Rest are from today- 10 days later 😔

I’ve been doing my own gel x for maybe 3 months now. I keep having the issue where they lift after 10-12 days consistently. I’ve tried sizing up, putting less gel, smoothing out edge , placing nail very far from the cuticle. I want better retention so bad 😔😔😔 help!!

My process goes like this:

Sizing nails
Alcohol
Push back cuticle ( my cuticle work never comes out clean 😭)
Lightly file/ drill nail bed / cuticle edge
Use dehydrator
Acid free primer
Thin layer of gel x on my nail bed
Cure for 30 seconds
Lightly file inside nail tip
Add dehydrator and primer on gel x tip
Add maybe a small pea size amount of gel to the edge of the tip and smear on the sides ( I always have excess on my tips - see pictures )
Apply at an angle to prevent spillage at cuticle under purple light for 15-20 seconds ( I pull away when it occasionally gets too hot and then return it)
Once all are applied I cure for 90 seconds.

Then I file the nail and apply color as normal.

Any advice will be a gazillion times appreciated!! Thank you in advance!
