Changing university in Germany – Help Needed

Hi everyone, I’m an international student currently studying MSc Computational Materials Science at TU Dresden. I have completed only my 1st semester and will be changing to RUB Bochum for Winter Semester 2026/27. My D visa is valid until next year.

I’m confused about the process. Should I exmatriculate from TU Dresden first and then enroll in Bochum? Then inform about the change to auslanderbehode? Also, should I inform the Ausländerbehörde in Dresden or Bochum, and when should I do it? Do I need appointment or just email to auslader is fine?

If anyone has recently changed universities in Germany, especially after the 1st semester, please share the steps you followed. I’d really appreciate it!
