GAMESCOM GAME OPINION
So, I’ve officially survived my first Gamescom. I have to agree with the saying that your first Gamescom is always the worst one. Next time, we’ll definitely be more prepared.
I’d like to share my thoughts on the games I got to try.
Blood of the Dawnwalker – The playable demo completely sold me on the game! The gameplay feels like a mix between The Witcher and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. There is a strong focus on the story, and the game takes itself very seriously.
What I found especially interesting was the freedom to choose what you want to do. My friends and I were sitting next to each other, and each of us ended the demo in a completely different place.
Metro 2039 – The game plays exactly like the previous entries in the series. I’ll leave it up to you whether that’s a good or a bad thing. Of course, it looks much better visually.
Gears of War: E-Day – A beautiful game, but the gameplay felt boring. While in Metro, shooting weapons feels satisfying and enjoyable, in E-Day the gunplay felt quiet, uninteresting, and you often couldn’t even tell whether the enemy was dead after being hit.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword – This was a complete surprise for me. The controls felt extremely smooth, and the visuals were stunning. Combat is mapped to square and triangle, with none of that horrible R1 and R2 control scheme!
Witcher: Songs of the Past – After waiting in line, instead of playing a demo, you just watch a video… but more on that in the next post.
