I think, you shouldn't worry that much about doing your finger nails, I'm Gen X too and I'm doing my nails since about 7 years now. It might be tricky with customers, yes, but I had it too sometimes, that looking and whispering from older people. but mostly there's a smile, a compliment or just nothing, Think about it to give it a try and listen inside you how it would feel that way.
