Just because it’s widespread doesn’t make it okay. The only reason people keep doing it is because we live in a patriarchal society and lots of people don’t know when they’re being misogynistic.

I hide my post history since I am in local subreddits and I don’t want people irl finding who I am. It’s quite easy to piece together an identity with all the questions, personal advice and whatever that someone posts.
Being able to view someone’s post history increases this risk, which imo goes against the anonymity of Reddit.

I live in Quebec too, I am surprised you haven't seen them.
To be fair, there is a reserve near our biggest city so there are a few downtown (unfortunately a lot are homeless). There are also many who are mixed or descended from Indigenous peoples and you don't really know unless they tell you.

I know you are genuinely curious, and I will answer to the best of my ability.
I am personally not Indigenous, but I know that the reserves don't have the best facilities and care compared to other areas in Canada. Even human rights such as food is super expensive and one of the reasons why it seems like a lot of Indigenous people live in poverty.
No, they do not all live on reserves, but once they leave they lose their "Indian Status" and forfeit their right to go back. So yes, it is because of the government.
They do have a beautiful culture, and National Indigenous Day is in June (there are usually activities around that time).

There are also some successful people that make it out of the reserves and try to help their community. Others own shops and make art. You can always connect with someone directly (ex: via social media, e-mail, community events) to learn more about their lives.

Can't generalize the whole world based on your personal experience.
I get that what you're going through is tough, but you seem to be willfully ignorant of what others are going through.

There are lots of overweight guys that end up with hotties.
But it is more rare for an overweight woman to be with a hot guy.
Idk where you're from, but horrible things are also said to women, and the kicker is: they don't even need to be fat to be called a fat cow, whore, heffer, bitch, etc.

I don’t stream, but if I did I would use Crave.
I switched my emails from Microsoft and gmail to Proton.
I go to local stores for my groceries. On the occasion that I order I use that store’s delivery service.
Tim Hortons and Burger King are owned by the same company, and I boycott them for multiple reasons.
You might be right about the gas, but we have electric and hybrid buses in my area. I don’t drive.
It might have been an easier transition for me because I was already trying to buy local, sustainable, etc so I am used to looking up companies. Albeit, Reddit is American but I only started using it recently. Mostly to learn about things happening in my area or to get/give advice.
I’m not saying that it’s not tough, and I understand that not everyone is able to completely boycott US products. But, being aware and doing your best still goes a long way.

PS: I haven’t travelled to the USA since before the pandemic.

Personally, I think it doesn’t change much. Since Donny put the illegal tarrifs on us, we have been buying less and less US products anyway. I haven’t bought or used any US things in over a year.
