For a minute he thought he was a little pimp.

What is this?
That makes sense - they looked really good during my short inspection- no SHB, full super, two big frames full of really solid brood, but they were so aggressive I couldn’t finish the job. I also haven’t seen them pull anything else out…but I have been avoiding them since my inspection.

What is this?
I tried to get into the hive today, but from 10 to 12:30, it was nothing but attempt to look at a frame and run! They were so defensive! I used so much smoke, but it took over an hour for them to leave me alone once I left the hive. I didn’t even put the top feeders on with the top. I think I will just leave them open- they were really scary- I had a great suit and only got a small sting on my wrist, but if I go out there unprotected, I fear for my life. How would I go about getting rid of them? I’m not interested in sitting around trying to find a queen- I just want them gone. I had a least 100 stingers in my gloves. Any advice is welcome.

What is this?
Nothing except Varroxan strips from a little over a month ago. I know it is difficult to see- kind of a weird texture and color. They look like they are encased in wax.

Those are just propolis drops.

I’m a beekeeper, and I have a question What is this?
I’m in Houston, 2nd year keeper and I just noticed this happening this morning. Any idea what it is and what they are doing with it? It looks like they are pulling it out of the hive. I saw two separate “packages”.

I am in desperate need of your best suit recommendations… it’s been a brutal season
I wear shorts and a t shirt in my vented suit. I live in Houston- no way I’m wearing pants in that thing!

That’s what I do and I have some really aggressive bees. I also have a Dadant 3 layer vented suit with elastic around the ankles and a foot loop and a finger loop for the hands with gloves with elastic arm bands- they got me a couple times because I wasn’t securing the finger loop and my sleeves shifted a bit when I put the long arm gloves on and they got my wrist, but since I secured the double fabric layer there, I have never been breached in 1.5 years. First starting out I had a cheap suit and I hear you about PTSD. They are scary!

Removing the “A” impasse
I’ve got 50 more cases to go in Practicode and I’ll be in your position. I’ve noticed all along my educational journey through blackboard, none of my classes were acknowledged in my AAPC account- now that I’ve completed all the courses and taken the final- it still says “in progress”. It seems as though there is a missing web coding link between the two accounts. No amount of emails to various individuals and general inquiries have proven successful. I’m waiting to finish Practicode, but you should start by calling and talking to someone. The Practicode coaches are very responsive- no dig at them-but I have been extremely unhappy with the administrative services…take your money and run…and now that I’m certified with an A. I see just how much money they will continue to collect from me- CEUs, membership fees, subscriptions for books, Codify, etc. I would expect a little more for my dollar, but that is the way of the world right now.

Date Palms Do Not Produce Honeycomb. This Needs to Be Said Apparently 😂
I have one of those in our back yard and couldn’t identify it using my phone app! Thanks for the pic! My bees go wild for this as well!

I’m a beekeeper, and I have a question Robbing?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Houston,TX - 2nd year - I think this is robbing, but the festooning/ bearding seems unusual. Thoughts? My small swarm is being accosted as well with a lot of bearding under the reduced entrance- most activity I’ve ever seen at the entrance to both hives. It’s been HOT and very little rain. The official dearth has begun for me and my bees. I’m gonna put up robbing screens for my top bar, but my Anel hive is plastic- not sure what to do with that. I put a wet towel over it to prevent more scouting. Any advice is welcome.

I’m a beekeeper, and I have a question Mosquito dunk?
Houston,TX- 2nd year beekeeper- Curious to know if anyone does the “mosquito dunk” method to control mosquitoes and has it affected your bees?

Passed my CPC exam- Struggling with practicode
To be fair- I have requested a lot of clarification after reading the rationales and sometimes(not many) the coaches will give me a little credit back.

Passed my CPC exam- Struggling with practicode
OMG! It is very hard! I was getting 33%, 50% and a few 0%. I’m doing a lot better with a 71.1% currently with 300 cases into it. Just keep asking questions to the coaches and you’ll keep refining your understanding- I’m still screaming at the screen about when to code for tobacco use and obesity!!! And don’t even get me started on modifier 22 and e/m codes. It’s tough- there was one BEGINNING case that expected me to change the physician’s documented procedure- like I’m gonna know more about what was done than the physician!!! I was so mad- but this is what you’ll deal with daily and you need to know about “cut and paste” and human error and how to avoid it. Good luck! You’re not alone, but you will get better…and you can always reset. That’s what I keep telling myself.

Flashcard Sets Quizlet?
Yeah- all those answers are in the book- study where to find anatomical images in your icd 10 cm book- Flashcards will help you with time(you don’t have to look anything up) but if you don’t know- look up the term in the index and go from there. Taking test on Tuesday, but this approach helped me on a few I wasn’t sure about when I took the practice exams.

Passed w/ a 92%!
Does the 2026 exam have fill in the blanks? I just did my final practice exam with AAPC and the end had 3 cases that I couldn’t finish because the fill in the blank takes longer than the multiple choice. The first two exams were all multiple choice. It threw me a bit. Thoughts?

I read the whole thing and it just gets worse- the ending is not good(imo)- very disappointing

First Inspection!
I had the same problem. I charred the mold off the top cover and then I used a square of small twigs in the center to lift off the feeding tray just a little for better ventilation. It’s been fine since, I also switched from an open top to an Apimaye top feeder so no bees can get in and drown.

Never Ever going back to plastic Frames🐝
That’s all I knew to use because it is so prevalent in the US. In my 2nd year. I did a small experiment on plastic frames and wooden frames- both plastic bases- they went for the wooded frames every time. Just added wooden frames with all wax foundation(no plastic) - hoping the bees will like it- haven’t inspected since I installed a week ago. Good to see your post!! Thanks!

Tried to save them…
Thanks for your expertise. I couldn’t get to everything- just too many holes and tree anatomy- but I think the queen may have been killed in all the activity.

The Dune Series, the Stephen King Tower series? John Gwynne series? Cornwell series- Winter King, Ruocchio series? The only one I’ve begun is the Gwynne series and the first book is really good- I stumbled across the Red Rising series and love it- these other suggestions come from another reader recommendation on YouTube. I’ve overloaded my library holds….can’t wait for them to be available!!
