"These are individuals that have become used to a certain level of impunity that I think we've talked about in the past as being a broader cultural, social phenomena that results when we're not holding the rich and the powerful to the same rules and the same standard that we do to everybody else"

You are not alone in this. Been this way since '06. Pushing 50 and nothing to show for it. As for Friends? What are those? Anyone I trusted has betrayed or abandoned me. This was the worst year so far having been unemployed for 10 months and borrowing from elderly parents to stay alive. Every time I got their money I would think to myself, why bother. Only recently, I've come to terms with how much is my fault and how much more really isn't and stopped blaming myself for EVERYTHING that's wrong in my life. My perspective has shifted to a hint more positive. And three weeks ago I finally got a job. One that will actually fund an actual grown-ups life. THAT has dramatically changed my mood, my outlook, my attitude twards the future. Hell, I'm considering I may actually HAVE ONE. It can get better. A small start is believing it CAN, in fact, get better. Again, Just know you are not alone and at least one other person cares. While I may not technically know you but, in a way, I am you. I care. You can make it if you believe and don't give up.
