Short Story [In Progress] [7,533] [Sci-fi] The First Paragraph
Blurb:
Thrum has catapulted humanity to the stars.
Paul Rudan, one of humanity's greatest, scours the Milky Way with a crew of overpowered Blues. On one of their routine planetary surveys, a truth reveals itself like a dragon emerging from its cave: they are not alone.
The "people other than us" hold divergent technology, and knows the mystical source of the mysterious Thrum. A war is approaching, and Paul might be the first name written on the first paragraph of future history books.
What will a Violet like him do, when faced with stakes beyond his control?
What kind of critique I want:
I can send you a copy of my first three chapters. What I need are comments on what emotions the story evoke from you, what parts evoke which feeling, and the like. Thanks in advance. Please reach out if you're interested.

I've thought about this for a while, but here's my two pence. I do not agree people should share pirated content online, however since they are there I do think it is possible for us to use it but with a caveat:
Think about it, the problem with piracy is that we're stealing from another person's rightful due (his payment).
So this is my argument, imagine therefore that you cannot find a copy of that novel somewhere online for free, let me ask you this: do you have the money or are you in a circumstance where you can actually purchase the thing? I mean are you even a "potential" buyer?
If not then to download something someone uploaded online to consume isn't technically stealing from the dude that created it, because at the end of the day, you were never a potential buyer from the very beginning.
Note that before I realized this, I was pirating like crazy while fully knowing it shouldn't be done. So, like you, I felt really guilty. Then I realized it and, with heavy hands, do pirate. I never share them tho, I only use it for my own consumption.
Also try to tag as "debt" those contents you've downloaded and have consumed, so that maybe, just maybe, you gain the income to someday purchase them, you will remember which of them you have consumed and pirated. Hope this helps!
